Our friends at PewterReport.com report that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter to a one-year contract.

Trotter was unexpectedly released by the Eagles to cap his second tenure wit the team. He drew little interest beyond Tampa, and will bring his non-Cover 2 skills to a Cover 2 defense.

It really is a bad fit, in our view. Trotter doesn't have the speed to cover the deep zones that will be his assignment in the Cover 2 defense. So unless he's used only in clear running situations, he'll be a potential liability in the team's base defense.
    Very interesting.

Decent addition. I guess he'll be their starting MLB instead of Barrett Ruud.

Bad call in my opinion as Ruud is their MLB of the future

Trotter is expected to focus on backing Barrett Ruud up in the middle. He doesn't have much left, but is veteran insurance behind a first-year starter.

Doesn't seem like a Cover 2 LB, but whatever.

don't the Eagles run some type of cover 2?

Trotter is past his prime. As a backup, it's an okay move for the Bucs. If Trotter comes in and is named the starter over Rudd, it will prove to be a terrible move on the Bucs part.

Not a good fit schematically, but if he sees time in running downs he could be a nice addition.

I like it as a little insurance for Ruud. The Bucs have a lot of cap room floating around anyway so investing in Trotter for a year to help on running downs won't be such a bad thing.

I like this move, as he brings leadership and experience to the team, but especcially to barret ruud, who he will be able to teach, and if the reports are true then the role that they are planning on using him for are perfect
