He missed a 29 yard field goal that cost the Colts the game vs the Chargers (and missed 4 out of 6 field goals in a 2 game span that included that game), and didn't hit a field goal longer than 39 yards last season.
And then the playoffs arrived, and he booted a 46-yarder right down the middle with five to ten yards to spare. ;)
Pugnacity, testosterone, truculence, and belligerence.
Lindell is a beast from 50+, and he's not doing it in great conditions. No embarassing missed PAT on his resume, either. One of the best FG% in the league since his first year in Buffalo, I'd imagine. Not quite the top kicker, but he gets a lot of praise from me. Sometimes overlooked in our group of perennially great STers.
My answer is Josh Brown, I've always been a fan. Even after pulling a DX after tackling Hester.
I dont think Bironis is the best kicker in the NFL.
Remember when Neil Rackers had that historical year acouple years back? Does anyone say hes the best still?
Kickers come and go like flies on poop. They are very inconsistent year in and year out. That is why Adam Vinitieri is the best IMO, and is one of maybe 2 kickers in the last 20 years that will make the hall of fame.
I know my homerism is kicking in with my pick, but I would say that Phil Dawson is one of the best in the league right now. He's not often talked about because of his lack of FGs. But this year has to have been one of the best ever for a kicker. He hit the crossbar twice this year and both went in! Not the mention those amazing kicks in the snow game vs. Buffalo. Wind speeds were up to 40 MPH that day! He is also 6th on the all-time accuracy list with an 82.7%
