I saw someone mention that a thread about draft grades from further back should be made, so here is a 2005 draft grade thread. Grades are based on the value of the player in relation to where he was drafted.
2005
1 19 19 Alex Barron T ..................There are mixed feelings about him among Rams fans, but he is a solid OT and may perform better on the left side in years to come, B
2 18 50 Ronald Bartell DB ..............I am a big fan of Bartell, a CB with great size and athleticism. He will challenge Brown for the starting spot next year, B
3 2 66 Oshiomogho Atogwe DB ......Should have made the probowl, he will become one of the elite safeties in the league, A+
3 17 81 Richie Incognito C ............Pick was questioned at the time, took a couple seasons to see the field, but when healthy he is a force, B
4 16 117 Jerome Carter DB ...........Was a decent backup safety for a couple years, but ultimately he provided the Rams very little, D-
4 33 134 Claude Terrell G .............Looked to have a solid future with the Rams, health, conditioning, and character issues (woman beater) derailed that, F
5 8 144 Jerome Collins TE ............One of many TE's the Rams have drafted recently, never did much, F
6 18 192 Dante Ridgeway WR .......Some were high on him as a sleeper, but never developed, F
6 36 210 Reggie Hodges P ...........Started for a year, wasn't very good, but did start, D
7 36 250 Ryan Fitzpatrick QB .......Very good 3rd stringer, successfully lost the Rams 5 draft spots in a comeback win against the Texans, but he did decent when in, B-
7 37 251 Madison Hedgecock RB ..Superbowl champion.....for the wrong team, I still wonder the rationale behind releasing him, great pick but no longer on team, A
All in all I'd give this draft a a C. It produced four solid starters in Barron, Incognito, Atogwe, and Hedgecock; a great depth CB who will challenge for starting spot in Bartell; a solid 2nd/3rd string QB in the 7th rd; but it also had 5 guys who did nothing or next to nothing in the NFL.
