  • Browns to Contact Mike Holmgren

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4634879

One of the first people Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner will contact to run his team, if he hasn't contacted him already, is former Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren, according to a team source.

Holmgren is itching to return to football and the opportunity he would have in Cleveland would be an attractive one. Lerner is looking for someone to perform for the Browns the same role that vice president of football operations Bill Parcells performs for the Dolphins. The job, for the time being, is Holmgren's to lose........

Holmgren isn't stupid. No way he even sniffs near taking this job.

This probably doesn't bode well for Eric Mangini - ownership might have liked him, but if Holmgren were to take over the team, I doubt he'd be impressed with Mangini's performance as head coach. You could probably say goodbye to Anderson and Quinn - Holmgren would probably want to put his own guy in there. Wonder who he'd want as a coach - probably a Walsh disciple.

Hiring anybody to run the team besides himself would be a great move for Lerner.

Not sure a Holmgrem would take the job and work with an owner who wants results yesterday and has little patience. Holmgren can pick a franchise with a stable owner not a jerk reaction owner like Lerner.
                And proud of it!!!

This is perfect for Holmgren he'll be the mnager, doesn't have to coach day to day, doesn't have to do the GM work day to day, just sit back and bark orders.

Holmgren could do better. Why jump at the first of what will likely be many similar opportunities? He knows better than that, and I would be astounded if he took this offer with any seriousness when it is eventually presented to him.

On a sidenote i've heard Holmgren speak very highly of Jake Locker.

I doubt he could stomach having to pay a large salary to a fired Holmgren, plus Mangini, Crennel and whoever he hired to replace Holmgren if he fires him quickly.

It is a terrible spot. The team is horrible, in a division with 3 really good QBs that will be around for a whlie. Pittsburgh an elite team, a rising Bengals teams. Ravens not looking so good, whenever you have a good QB your never too far from contending.

Even with huge NFL turnarounds its hard to imagine this team contending for the division for a long time.

Every team in the market looking for a new coach is going to contact Holmgren.
