  • Team Needs

    1. Center - Ghiaciuc is the obvious weak link in our Oline, since the day Braham got hurt the line just hasn't been even close to what it was. Upgrade Center and you improve both the run and passing game.

    2. Offensive Tackle - Levi gets hurt too often, not sure how well he plays healthy. Collins is promising for sure. I'm more comfortable with Collins than Levi at this point. We still have no clue who our RT will be week 1.

    3. Running Back - Benson still has to be re-signed, if he isn't, we're in massive trouble. Perry can't find running room and when he does he can't hold onto the football. Fix the Oline and the run game automatically improves.

    4. Pass Rusher - Position is not all that important. I'm not sure what to expect out of Geathers, Odom was hurt for a bulk of last season even when he did play. Our LB's don't get to the QB, we need someone to put pressure on the QB from our front 7. The secondary still held up strong despite the lack of pressure is the only reason this need is not higher.

    5. Depth at LB - Jeanty generally gets hurt, I LOVE Brandon Johnson but him and Rivers are in the same spot. Dhani was great last season but he's only another year older, we're going to have to fill his spot eventually.

Those I see as our big needs, of course a lot of it depends on how FA shakes out. Figured we could all post up our needs to help out the guys doing mocks.

I would switch Pass Rusher and RB. Other wise I agree completely

We don't really need an AD on our team, yeah sure it would be nice, but as a NEED, pass rush is higher. I would be happy with a Jeremiah Johnson, Andre Brown or Shonn Greene in round 3 or later who will be a solid runner. Carry the ball 25+ times, help take pressure off Carson. Nothing spectacular. Give me 1000 yds and some TD's and I wont be too upset. Especially if our draft goes anything like Scott has it.

        LT - Andre Smith
        LG - Andrew Whitworth
        C - Alex Mack
        RG - Bobbie Williams
        RT - Anthony Collins

Hit the hole between our Half-Ton left side of the line and BAM 3-4 yds every run.

I might be in the minority here but I would put Andre Smith at RT. I would then have Collin and Jones battle it out at the LT spot. I think that would motivate Jones and Collins to both play better.

If we don't sign Benson then RB moves up to the #2 need behind Center. I think we could manage without a tackle if NEED be, but signing benson better be top priority.

You just can't leave Levi out of the mix.
          LT: Jones(starter going into camp)/Collins
          LG: Whit
          C: Mack/Wood
          RG: Bobbie
          RT: Andre Smith

I would at least try Smith at LT. If he doesnt work well in camps or pre-season to RT it goes and Collins back to LT

My primary needs would be C first. Guichac screws up everything in the middle. Levi can not be trusted to be healthy anymore and I prefer seeing Collins at RT. I would prefer we grab a LT and move him but if we leave him there and go RT in the draft I'm probably ok with that. I still worry about Collins taking on top rushers with a 5-7 step drop from Carson. I want Benson resigned and I would be OK with him as our starter. That being the case, I would still want a backup but not a real primority. I see CB as a real need too. David Jones may improve, but I want him to have to compete to play.

The problem here is we have a Rookie guarding Carsons blind side and a Rookie snapping the ball + QB:ing the line.

While it looks like a fantastic deal for the future.. I think they need to be groomed in to their position.
Otherwise, with rookie mistakes x2 on the OLine, Carson might see yet another season shortened by injuries.

LT is one of the positions where you really can have instant success in the NFL. Do you have a guess which LT gave up the least amount of sacks this year?

Ryan Clady, but the Broncos OLine is amongst the best in the NFL.
Ours is amongst the worst currently, if not THE worst.

I'm not saying it can't work.
I'm saying it is a risk and I'd rather not address both needs trough the draft.

An interesting take from John Thorton, FWIW: http://bengalscentral.typepad.com/my...escisions.html

I tend to agree with that but I may be in the minority here.

Interesting take by Thornton. Like inside info on what the team thinks about Collins and the Center position (Marvin kept giving Ghiaciuc props which scared me that he wouldn't take a Center).

The thing is, in all liklihood, OT will be the BPA or very close with our first rounder. That's part of why I favor it, wouldn't be reaching at all.

Granted, if Curry somehow fell that's my ideal pick at this point.

Would we draft Andre Smith to play RT at number six? I know thats usually a spot for Left Tackles but we did draft Willie Anderson in the top 10 to play right tackle. Just food for thought I guess.

I think we would work Andre out at LT and if he doesn't impress, we would move him to RT.
