I'm sure he'll get more than Keith...the Brooking signing may not be ideal but, at that price it's a bargain. And on the brighter side, he should be better than Thomas and not wear down like Zach did down the stretch. Thomas was pancaked on both of those Ravens late touchdown runs. He was getting worse as the season wore on...it will atleast be nice to have a little more size in the middle with a player that has a better familarity with the defense. A decent signing but, not great by any means because, we all know we need coverage help at the position and this certainly doesnt help us there. I do like the idea of Brooking and James blitzing simultaneously, though. Bradie's pass rushing has improved immensely and Brooking could always apply pretty good pressure.

From what I saw he was good at engaging and shedding blocks and he's not just a mass of space, he can get after the QB from the end spot and disrupt the run as well...He has alot of versatility so I think he'll fit in well with a rotation of guys, won't be hard to find a niche for him, he was just asking for too much from a position that traditionally shouldn't be that hard to find or develop...He's not an elite pass-rusher but he's got long arms and can definately put some pressure on the QB.

In the unlikely event Gilbert last to our pick I'll most likely be upset we lost him, but we did manage to get Ratliff and he's far more important to this defensive line.
Bigblue, I have to disagree with this assestment.

At times, Canty looked very good, but he was very inconsistent. And frankly, he never showed me anything rushing the passer. He's solid against the run, but I just don't think he's worth that kind of money. I just don't think you throw that kind of money at the Canty's in this day and age. Especially, given that DL is not exactly a weakness for you guys.

I just don't like this deal from a Giants perspective. If it's any indication, as a Cowboys fan, he does not put fear into me given that we have to play him twice a year now. And I'm not sure where the heck the Justin Tuck comparison comes in; if you could compare him to J. Tuck, Dallas would have never let him hit the market.

I think Canty will be a solid, run-stuffing DL, but I think he may be a 2 down guy for you. And you paid too much money for that.

        • Saw that Cromartie trade rumors are going. He is on his rookie contract so depending on the asking price it'd be interesting to see what would happen.

D noted in the thread that Wade was behind drafting Cromartie....it'd be interesting to see if we were interested. Now here is the funny part.

As a fan....I'd want to see him as a return specialist in Dallas. Hell have an open competition for 2/3/4th cbs...and if he doesn't win he plays the dime corner and is our return specialist.

I have a feeling that Felix won't be on kick returns this year...and we still don't have a punt return man....Cromartie is dynamic with the ball in his hands....if the asking price could be taken care of with a second day pick and a player it'd be worth a thought.

However I'm sure asking price is more like a early 2nd...in which case no thanks...just some food for thought.

          • Roy says he's done in Dallas...he's set today as his date to be released or traded, he just wants to move on.

Roy Williams wants to know what his future holds immediately, so his agent, Jordan Woy, has asked the Dallas Cowboys to either cut or trade the strong safety by today.

Wow that is pretty interesting...well this isn't good for shopping him...although I guess we still hold the leverage.

              • Roy's a goner, and I couldn't be happier, now we have got to fill holes at each level of the defense as well as O-line depth...I hope we cut Ellis this off-season too.

I agree Roy just needs to be released. I can't see a team trading anything for him at this point. But I have to strongly disagree with cutting Ellis, we are very thin at the LB position at the moment. As it stands we've already lost 4-5 players from last years defense.

                  • Funny that we dont hear more about cutting Ellis...he can still get after the QB and his tune always changes when the season roles around. I wouldnt be shocked if we kept him. He's still pretty valuable...especially as that 3rd down pass rushing end. His price tag is a little high just for that, though.

                    • I don't think anyone would wanna cut ellis the player. But his whining in TC every year about a position switch/contract situation/demotion really gets annoying...as a leader he should keep it shut.

I agree. He wants to be in that Ring of Honor too, but there's no way.

I say trade him. He has value. 8 sacks last year while splitting time with Spencer.

                        • Trade him for what tho? I mean maybe as a throw in player to get a deal done...but doesn't look like the trade market is out there right now. From a value standpoint I can't really see us getting anything more than a 6th for him which wouldn't be worth it straight up imo.

Yeah... a draft pick anywhere is fine. His cap gets cleared from the books and we get one less headache in the lockerroom. He really does not help us anymore. He never warmed up to teach the youngin's. Addition by subtraction.

                            • I believe Ellis cap number is 4.15 million according to rotoworld. That would be a big enough number to bring in a safety. With a pretty good 3-4 DE/OLB class we could address the weakness there and fill our safety need in FA by making this cut....but once again I haven't heard a single report about us talking to anyone this FA. Not even Brooking....so I'll take it for what it's worth.
