  • Ian Scott

    interesting MVN article.

Earlier in the week there were some rumors about free agent defensive tackle Ian Scott (Chicago) and the Giants coming to a preliminary agreement but nothing substantial has been said since then. Fear not Giants fans, some good news appears to be on the horizon. At some point next week (Tuesday or Wednesday) we should all hear some additional news on Scott and what, if any, agreement he has in place with the Giants.

Scott would be the big, powerful run stopping defensive tackle the Giants are currently looking for. He would probably be used in a rotation that includes rookie standout Barry Cofield.

There are also rumors that the Giants have an eye on free agent linebacker Ike Reese (Atlanta) as well.

Joseph is not being paid a lot of money, I'm pretty sure it is under $2 million.

My thought would be that if we sign Scott, I would throw Joseph on to the trade market and see if there would be any takers. He could start at DT on a few teams around the league and he is relatively cheap, might be an interesting option to pursue to fill some depth on the O-line or TE.

get scott, it would fill out our DT rotation. would be great for depth all around d-line with kiwi, tuck, joseph and scott. plus it would be one less thig to get depth through the draft, same with reese. reese is a special teams ace, who again, would bring depth. both should also come relativly cheap

hes a good rotational player and would really help- robbins, cofield and scott would make a pretty solid crew

Depth is never a bad thing.

Reese is utilizing FA the right way. You fill holes with FA, and you get talent in the draft. Scott could provide quality depth for us, and give us a better rotation.

I would like to use him strictly as a rotational guy though. I think anything beyond that would be unfair expectations. Hopefully Coffield puts on another 15 solid pounds of muscle and mans the NT spot, and Scott can spell him at NT or spell Robbins at UT.

If we get him for cheap, Id love the move.

if we get scott, than we trade Joseph for a 2nd or a 3rd, we definately could, then we keep robbins and scott and coefield in our rotation and backups are the people the giants picked up so they could be on the practice squad.
I'd be glad if we got a guy like that so strahan and Osi could get off their blocks easier and not get injured every season.
Is Kiwi really going to go to LB?

IMO we'd get a 5th at best for Joseph

it might be best if we kept him if indeed we sign scott, god forbid we have some freak injury in the interior line.

Eh, if we get Scott and say, Robbins gets injured, we can just keep Scott and Cofield at starter.

I'd rather get a 5th rounder (perhaps a 4th rounder if we're lucky), then have him at 4th string DT who might see action if two guys are unfortunate enough to get injured.

Robbins, Cofield, and Scott would give us some great depth and allow us to keep Cofield and Robbins fresh at the end of the year. Should help our Defensive Ends get more sacks and our linebackers punch through on the blitzes more.
                              (shameless self-promotion)
