I doubt he'll make the roster out of ST, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see him with the Mets at some point this season.
If he has a good spring in front of Manuel and Warthen then I think he will definitely find himself on the SP depth chart. He might be last on that list but I could also see him coming up this year probably in September. For our sake it would be ideal if we didn't see him before then.

    • Today was the first intrasquad game. Gee, Parnell, and Niese all pitched 2 scoreless which is always good to see.

      • I've heard Brad Holt is invited to ST.

Man, I hope this kid develops. NASTY stuff.

I saw him pitch in Brooklyn last year. Last Cyclone impressed me this much was Scotty Kaz. (:()

Depends how his slider comes along. If he can develop a good slider, I'm thinking an AJ Burnett type. (Hopefully without the injuries). Right now, he's too much of a 1 trick pony.

I think his slider will be an above average pitch after this year. I'm more worried about how he develops his change up.

            • I love Holt but Jenry Mejia is the one with the real superstar and ace potential. He's only 18/19 and already throws consistently in the mid to high 90's.

His fastball is electric, more so than Holt (without as much command yet though), and his curve is a solid out pitch, but they say his change up is pretty good for such a young pitcher. If he continues to work on his change up I can see him being an ace in our rotation, or if things don't work out he has a great chance to be a closer with his stuff.

              • Yeah, I saw Mejia in Brooklyn last year too.

Great fastball and a SICK 12/6 hammer.

His command still needs a lot of work. He still overthrows his fastball too much and leaves his curve hanging at times.

Mechanics need work. And he's WAY too hyper out there.

                But when he's focused........WOW.

                  3. Moviel

                  • Well, if it's strictly upside, there might be some youngsters in the lower levels with great arms.

I've heard Elvin Ramirez has great stuff. John Holdzkom can hit 100mph on the radar gun, although it's a rare event when he actually throws a strike.

EDIT: Don't forget Brant Rustich. He has NASTY stuff too.

Pretty solid list, but Rustich should certainly be in there. Nice mention of Moviel though. He was injured last year, but he's HUGE at 6'11 and is a guy who I could see being a great closer in the future.

                        • I liked what I saw out of Gee today. How do you guys think he compares to Petit?

                          • He has much better stuff then Petit.

Gee relies on his control, but he's far from a finesse pitcher.

                            His fastball touches 94mph.

BA says he averages 89-90 but will sneak one in at 92 once in a while. Your the first person I saw that says he can hit 94.

I know, I know, but from what I've seen he throws fairly hard.
