  • Alan Faneca WILL NOT be resigned by Pittsburgh after this season!

They just said on Cold Pizza that Alan Faneca WILL NOT be resigned by Pittsburgh after this season!

Do "They" pay his salary? Mr. Rooney will ultimately decide on this matter. However, with the amount of money mediocre guards are getting on the open market, Faneca will command a fortune. Since the recent trend for the Steelers is to overpay many so-so lineman instead of rewarding premier ones, I can imagine a future of Max Starks/Kendall Simmons/Mahan et. manning the trenches. This is the one element of our team that has me most worried.

This is a frightening scenario. (Barring last season)Faneca's the best O lineman we've had since Dirt retired. I say pay him. I'd almost be tempted to say franchise him but he's starting to get long in the tooth...

I say keep him but logically he can't be resigned after this season because of the redic contracts that lineman with half the ability of Faneca are receiving.....however if he is going to be gone any way trade him and get something for him....i had the same opinion on Porter

i think hes as good as gone, if given the opportunity to goto 'zona i say hes 100% gone

i say good riddence, if he doesnt want to be a steeler then leave..

but if he does want to stay and be a steeler but wants hutchinson type money, which im sure he'll want, then i dont see us resigning him...

not with youger guys needing to get paid, like troy and ben

thanks to steel man for the fresh sig

I'd rather save the money on Troy and Ben both needing resigned so. Can't have all of them.

Problem about saying trade him and get something for him is that teams don't like to give much up for older players. We'd be hardpressed to get more than a low 2nd rounder. Plus if he plays out his contract and not resigned we'll get a 3rd round comp pick. I'd rather get his play this year and the 3rd rounder than a low 2nd rounder.

Thanks to The Dynasty for the sig

they said that with us signing Troy there would not be enough money and of course you know we are keeping Ben, so it was between Troy and Alan and they said that people from Pittsburgh said Both are the best at their pos., but Troy is younger and it is harder to find a #1 safty than OL. I agree100% but the only thing that worries me is protecting Ben. if Ben is the franchise then you want your best players protecting him, but Troy is to good to let go and i can not imagine us without him, he is the best safty in the NFL

Rumors. that is all this is. There has been talk of working on an extention. I'll bet it does happen. If it does not, then one more strike against the new management. Letting the best G in football leave, the only one that can block every down. Not a good way to encourage your franchize QB to stay. I think he will resign, something in the 4-5 years 45-55 million range. If anyone is risky signing long term, it is Troy. he has had 6 concusions already. Everyone has been forced into retirement at 8.

has he really had 6 concussions?

also it seems like fanecad oesnt even want to be here so why would we keep him long term?

Why would you say that? He is/has been one of our team leaders the past few years. Yes, Troy has has 6 that we know about. 3 at USC and 3 more with us. That is the only good news. He has spread them out over the last 7 years.

                          seems like hes not pleased

Maybe he knows more about the changes in Pittsburgh than we do, and that is why he isn't happy. Being a player, he might not like the new direction the Steelers are going in. I hope we keep him and sign him to decent money, he is the best guard out there right now and if we lose him, we will really be hurting on the o-line.

I don't think it has anything to do with the direction of the team. I think Faneca plans on holding out for more money and a new deal all through training camp and he's starting now.
