You dont need to be a good PR person to run a football team but you do need to know about football and if it wasnt for Eddie DeBartalo, Jed would know NOTHING about football period. As for winning, we havent won crap since 2002 and yeah, it does speak for itself and makes everything easier but when you make stupid decisions every two years, you'll never get to that easy part because you'll never win anything except a top ten draft pick.

I never said Singletary or an ex-player would make a good head coach. I didnt want Singletary just like I didnt want Nolan or Erickson before him. I do think Singletary would be better as a head coach in college football because of his speeches and motivation.

As for the water bottle, it just looks to me like he's nervous and is indecisive and if he cant make a decision on whether or not he wants a sip of water, how can any 49ers fan have confidence in him running the franchise? It may sound stupid or whatever but thats how I look at it.

What you propose would probably get their asses fined for how big a slap in the face it is to the league with what they are attempting to accomplish with the Rooney rule whether you agree with it's effectiveness or not.

Are they smooth in the way they conduct interviews and make big decisions that effect the team? Absolutely not, but I don't believe the Yorks are racist.
I hate the Rooney Rule. It's stupid. Race has nothing to do with who a team hires as a GM/Head Coach, etc. An owner is going to hire whoever he wants regardless of whether he's white, black, blue, green or a damn rainbow. Plus, considering the fact that I would sy at least 90% of players are black, shouldnt there be a rule when it comes to signing players? Think about it. None of it makes any sense whatsoever.

I dont think the York's or any owner is racist because their team is like 90% black and black people are usually better athletes so why would any owner be racist? That also makes no sense considering the sport that they are in.

Back in 2003, I was hoping for Dennis Green instead of Dennis Erickson. Does that make me racist against white people including myself since im white? Its all about who the owner wants and thinks will fit best for his team.

Screw that. I would much rather scream and strangle someone instead. LOL.

      • Is Lloyd a free agent this coming off-season? If so, I would offer him a monster contrct that he cant refuse and just when he's about to sign it, I swipe it away and say "**** YOU!!! and I mean that in the most professional manner". LMFAO!!!

Well, it looks like Baalke will be promoted to GM on a permanent basis as early as Saturday. Looks like Jed and Trent will be making a huge push for Harbaugh after his Bowl game Monday.

I'm happy that Jed has a plan and a number one guy to be the head coach but here's a question - does he have a plan if Harbaugh decides to stay at Stanford or go to Michigan and what happens if Luck stays in college for his senior year regardless of what happens with Harbaugh?

I hope Jed has a backup plan because I dont want to see the same thing happen that happened with Sing when he was stuck hiring Raye as the OC.

I have a feeling that Jed decided to go full throttle in promoting Baalke to GM if he meant that he had secured the rights to Harbaugh. That would make sense and would be a smart move.

Nah, I didn't have in my sig, but I love posting it because it sums up the Erickson era perfectly.

Also, if we get Harbaugh, I think that's going to be awesome. He doesnt have to be the greatest ever as a HC for my to be happy with the choice. I think he'll at least be a solid coach who will certainly not be the reason we lose, you know... 'cause he wants to run the ball and play defense with a team with tons of receiving weapons which happens to play in a pass-oriented league.

Yes, it woud be a smart move but just because Harbaugh may have said yes, it doesnt mean a damn thing until he signs the contract. If it turns out that we'll get Harbaugh, great but if not, all im saying is that I hope Jed has a plan B just in case plan A falls through.

Going back to 2003, I was hoping for Dennis Green back then but he declined because he didnt want to deal with Owens despite already dealing with Moss in MIN. Like there's even a difference.

Love the dig at Singletary and his power running scheme. However, I do have a question, if we become more of a passing team, how does RT Anthony Davis fit in? I'm concerned that he'll be Kwame Harris part 2 and thats something we cant afford.

Any of our own free agents that you guys hope we re-sign and any free agents that you're hoping we sign in March?

                  • With our many recent FAILS< I'm nervous about the Niners putting all these eggs into Harbaugh's basket. If he decides against joining the 49ers, it could get ugly...quick. If Baalke and Harbaugh are a package deal, great, but that shouldn't be the basis of Jed making his decision on the GM.

Man-Law needs to be re-signed as he's a rare athlete at the LB position and continues to make an impact on the team, even though he is not the sack specialist we all hoped he would be.

I would look to keep Morgan around if he'll take clear #2 or #3 WR money.

Takeo has earned another year of playing for the Niners while Bowman continues to learn behind him as his 2012 replacement.

I'm indifferent on Goldson. If he wants to get paid a lot, he needs to be shown the door. Baas has played well at C, but he's had some mistakes too. If he wants a big payday, I think they should let him walk too.

As far as a FA Wish List, I'll wait until more details of the CBA are announced and we know who is being franchise tagged, tendered, etc. There could be a lot of changes.

Totally agree. Also, picking Baalke because he's someone who can work with Harbaugh kind of counters his whole 'the GM will pick the head coach' thing.

I'm very concerned that we're not doing due diligence in looking at experienced hires/outside of the organisation. A fresh perspective would be useful.

I think Jed wants Baalke as the GM because he knows that he'll still be able to run the team without the GM's interference. I see Baalke as our version of Ireland in MIA. Sure, he's the GM but its the guy behind him running the show.

And im worried about the same thing as you are. What happens if Harbaugh decides to stay at Stanford or go to Michigan? And another possibility is that another NFL team could come out of nowhere and sign Harbaugh. While I dont see it actually happening, what if Harbaugh convinces Luck to declare for the NFL draft because he knows that he'll be the number one overall draft pick since he'll be the next head coach of the Panthers??? If you're the Panthers, here's your chance at getting your franchise QB, a franchise head coach and best of all, both of them have already worked together. I dont see the Panthers doing any of this but it would be a smart move on their part.

Either way, Jed better have a plan B and even a plan C just in case plan A falls through.

I agree with you on Lawson 100%. Morgan is a solid number two but I think he would be a better number three. If Cardinals WR Steve Breaston is a deep threat, signing him to start opposite Crabtree with Morgan in the slot would be pretty good in my opinion. If Breaston isnt a deep threat, then disregard.

I would let Takeo leave and start Bowman next season next to Willis as I prefer to start him sooner rather than later. If Bowman isnt ready, I would hope for Jets ILB David Harris but thats unlikely so I would start Bowman.

I wanted to re-sign Goldson more than anyone here but anymore. He has regressed and isnt worth what he's asking for. I personally would go after Rams FS O.J. Atogwe as a two year stopgap. He has an $8m option bonus due before free agency was to start so it appears that he'll be an UFA for the second time in ten months. He's a playmaker plus I think he could help second year SS Taylor Mays.

I would re-sign Baas if his demands are reasonable. I really want OG Logan Mankins to play RG. If NE doesnt franchise him or he doesnt re-sign with them and hits UFA, I definitely go after him and wold have no problem giving him $35m over 5 years. He played a half a season and still got voted into the Pro Bowl and solidified the Patriots OL when he came back and hasnt missed a beat. Also, he would be a huge positive for Davis at RT.

And yeah, I guess it would be better to wait until the new CBA is done but I have to admit that im looking forward to free agency when it does start.

                              • I really have no idea how much of the 2010 draft was Baalke's and how much was set in stone with McDrunkard/Sing with regards to the direction they were going so it's pretty hard to evaluate his performance. He does have Marathe in place to do contracts already and be creative with them when need be so that helps a young GM a lot. Now Marathe's role in evaluating players' values to the team is another story.

I don't believe Harbaugh is on his way to the Niners which is neither here nor there to me other than if they target him and he is truly undecided and still doesn't even consider them as an option because of the front office/ownership.
