Doubt Kreutz comes in. There's been talk of him retiring soon.
Right, I see that now. Seems like he's saying its the Bears meet his price or he's retiring. Hopefully he's just bluffing and comes to here instead, haha. Even if it isn't Kreutz someone like Shaun O'Hara or Jonathan Goodwin can come in and do the job for a year. Better than paying Baas 26 million at least.
Hopefully Snyder can pull a 2010 Baas. Situations are kind of similar. Both are 2005 draft picks, both have been mediocre up to that point, both had trouble snapping the ball early in TC. Last year we tried to sign Mawae, this year Kreutz. Baas even had the infamous high snap back in week 2. But Baas played well enough to get a top 3 center contract. Snyder isn't as naturally talented as Baas but he has the better coaching. Hopefully Snyder surprises us all this year.
After three practices, it appears the 49ers like what they've seen from
Adam Snyder at center. Mark Bartelstein, the agent for former Chicago Bears center Olin Kreutz, said he has spoken to the 49ers but the talks have not gotten serious. And it looks as if the 49ers have every intention of developing the quick-learning Snyder for the role to replace David Baas, who signed a free-agent contract with the New York Giants. When asked what has impressed him about Snyder, Harbaugh answered, "Athletically, snapping ability, quickness, leadership. . . . He's displaying a noticeable level of leadership in the huddle. So far, so good."
Yes, apparently so. Unfortunately it will be enough to suck and ward off FA's again next year but not put us in position to draft Luck. EVERYONE in the NFC West has gotten better with the exception of the Niners. They've taken away pieces and unless 10-12 young guys have career years, it's going to be mediocre at best again this year. F***....

It's not that we're tanking but I think Baalke believe that this staff can get the most out of talent here. And we DO have talent. Spencer is a good CB. He's doesn't give up alot of big plays. Most of the time, its his inability to get his head around to locate the ball that gets him into trouble. Brown is talented. He's just absudly inconsistent. I think both could be good in a secondary that caters to their strengths. And one thing Fangio has said repeatedly is that he will cater this defense so guys are able to do what they do best. And if they can't get it done then let the young guys have a crack at it. I just think Baalke and Harbs really want to see what the coaching can do for some of these guys first, then determne if we need to go out grab some talent elsewhere. Its one thing to watch film all through the lockout and try to determine, what players can and cant do. But actually getting them in person, seeing the run and how they move, how they respond to coaching, how fast they process information is really the tell tale of evaluations. They are going to be ALOT of cuts made by teams to get under the salary cap. They're is still more wheeling and dealing left to be done if we dont like how guys in the secondary are looking. I'd say by our second preseason game, Fangio and Donatell should know if we need to look elsewhere.
Well Cromartie went back to New York, so that is pretty much a wrap as far as corners go. And no I don't want Carlos Rogers. Might as well stick with Spencer and Brown.
Rodgers is a definte upgrade over Clements in coverage and would easily vault into our #1 CB role. I live in Redskins country and have seen alot of Rodgers over the years. He's a solid CB who doesn't get beat deep and is a very good press CB. Rodgers wont give you the run support Clements will and the guy does have hands of stone, but he was the only Skin's CB worth a damn for a long time. He's a better CB than Marshall, a guy alot people around here coveted. The last time we signed a FA CB from the 'Skins, we made him a Pro Bowler. I think Rodgers would be a solid pick up.
