It is quite difficult to gauge where Quincy Black is only 3 games into the season. He has not received any prolonged playing time and is really only helping out on special teams at the moment. I think he has great potential, as do most, but untill he gets some extended playing time, I am not ready to say that him, partnered with June and Ruud is beastly.
He is definitely a good special teamer and that in itself will keep him on the roster for a couple of years. Look for him to get some real playing time when DB's decline is really noticeable and/or he decides to hang up the boots.
He will be a solid starter in a little while. He doesn't have the instincts, technique and intangibles to be close to Brooks. He could be our leading tackler down the road because of the position and because of his physical tools. I just don't see him developing into a fundamentally sound linebacker like Brooks, who plays cutback lanes perfectly. That kind of thing.
Brooks has extremely rare talent which few possess. If Black does in fact take over for Brooks in the future, I hope he experiences as little pressure as possible. Filling Brook's boots is no easy task for any NFL player, let alone someone who has only been in the league for a short period.
