    Prospect Swap on Horizon?

The Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders may be moving one of each organization's more highly rated prospects before week's end. The Islanders are being rumored to have defensemen Calvin de Haan going to Minnesota in exchange for defensemen Tyler Cuma. Cuma would figure to move right into a top four defensemen role for the Islanders following the upcoming departure of Freddy Meyer.

Wild acquire de Haan, deal Cuma

The Minnesota Wild have announced that they have completed a trade with the New York Islanders that sends D Tyler Cuma to New York and D Calvin de Haan back to Minnesota.

"The deal makes sense for both sides, really. The Islanders already have Mark Streit locked in, and Cuma adds some much needed defensive awareness and shutdown ability into their organization. We get a player who has impressive offensive talent, the ability to run our power play, and be a top pairing defensemen in this league", GM djp said.

"It just came down to balancing our system a little more. Marco Scandella is a very similar player to Tyler Cuma, and we felt that we did not have a lot of offensive defensemen waiting in the wings, particularly none with the skillset of Calvin", he added.

"On behalf of the Minnesota Wild, I really wish Tyler Cuma the best of luck. He is a great kid and should be a very solid NHL player for years to come. I hope he finds his new home in New York to his liking."
"Compadres, it is imperative that we crush the freedom fighters before the start of the rainy season. And remember, a shiny new donkey for whomever brings me the head of Colonel Montoya."

#3 Overall Pick up for Grabs?

The hot rumor is that if Florida is not in a position to select either Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin, they would look to move down a few spots in the draft. The ever-rebuilding Panthers currently sit 3rd, and if they are unable to get up to #2 or if both of the highly touted forwards are gone by their pick, movement could be on the way.

Ilya Kovalchuk is rumoured to have received a gigantic offer from the New Jersey Devils. Word is he really likes both the salary and length of the proposed contract, but Ilya still want to wait until the start of Free Agency to see if a team is willing to break the bank even more.

Sources connected to the team claim a long-term deal is in the works between the St.Louis Blues and their franchise defenceman Erik Johnson. The terms would pay the 2006 first overall pick a similar amount to Norris candidate Duncan Keith.

Montreal Candiens centre Tomas Plekanec would really like to re-sign with the club, but just like his predecessor Bob Gainey, the new Habs general manager is slow in making offers to his free agents. Plekanec still hasn't heard of a new offer from the organization and is slowly resigning himself to moving elsewhere.

A growing number of media pundits in Atlanta have recently talked about the contract situation of starting goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Pavelec is said to be extremely unhappy about the lack of appreciation from his team, who has yet to even make a qualifying offer. He is reportedly thinking about a possible move overseas if the Thrashers don't show more interest in the near future.

Anton Volchenkov of the Ottawa Senators is believed to have changed his mind towards his future with the team. Once willing to re-sign in order to stay with a team he really liked, the Russian defenceman has been angered by the lack of interest showed by the Senators and many sources close to the situation state there is not a single chance to see the player wearing the same colours next season.

The Anaheim Ducks are looking to add some depth both on offense and defense and the likes of goalscoring winger Joffrey Lupul and star point producing defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky could be heading to a new city before the start of next season.
