Because even if a Marine is able to do his 20 pullups 100 crunches and run 3 miles in 18 minutes if he's over his allotted weight he gets put on weight restriction and is disqualified from promotions for 6 months
Oh also, don't add Lt. Gen Flynn. That guy says because our base is non-deployable that we all don't rate to spend Christmas Eve with our families. Hooray for full days of work on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
I know. And if you're over they calculate your body fat by subtracting neck size from waist size. Worst body fat calculation ever
AR 600-9, it was the bane of my military existence. I could do more push ups, sit ups and had a faster 2 mile time then half the guys in my Company, but due to my weight being what it was (167 instead of 163), I was looked at as a poor soldier by some.
