The basement of my parents house was done up real nice and was my brother and I's playroom all growing up. I don't know where I would have been without it....it's weird to me to think about not having a basement.

Precisely. Soil doesn't matter so much as the water table. The concern isn't that the house will sink, it's that it will constantly have water seeping into the basement through the walls & floor.

Basements are the best. My basement = workout area, TV, arcade video game, bar, darts, hockey net, poker table.

But we also keep all the Halloween decorations down there, so there are literally monsters everywhere. They come to life when you turn the lights off.

my best friends basement was unfinished until we were about 13. some of the most epic hockey games were played down there. it was so big that when we were real young we could play 3 on 3 roller hockey. then we moved to floor hockey when we got too big. good times

I'd say about 80% of my free time from when we were small enough to play down there was spent playing basement hockey.

My friend's basement wasn't that big, but I remember having shootouts for hours on end. Awesome times.
