The duel was a hit, an assassination to take out Hamilton by Burr who was a crooked operative in the pay of foreign (Spain & others) govts. & in cahoots with equally crooked Gen. Wilkinson, who conspired to overthrow Jefferson.
Jefferson was the fave Founding Father, no contest. He sat up all one night & wrote the whole country concept down, called the Declaration of Independence. Too bad they edited out maybe 40% of his writings in the final edition. Here he is the cigar box art genre:

Lafayette was only 19 when he sided with the Americans, who were losing the Revolution until he coerced the French on to our side, we would not have won without him/them, very courageous man. He was a hero of his own country's revolution 25 yrs. later too.
I think Washington, Jefferson & Lafayette are the only 3 of that noble group who have a county, city, street, major edifice or something named for them in all 50 states & the DC, Madison is 4th.
