that doesn't work for such a long list of reasons.

that's an arbitrarily high number...

1) they'll notice the mentos in the ice
2) the ice will melt unevenly, meaning that you won't get the full effect
3) in a cup, the CO2 will have more room to escape
4) the ice melting will even out the grooves on the mentos anyways, meaning you won't get the explosive release
5) i'm lazy.

Brent 02-06-2012 08:42 PM

leave njx alone, he has to watch Tim Tebow quarterback his team.

CJSchneider 02-06-2012 08:52 PM

It will make a big mess and overflow the cup, but don't expect the same effect that you saw on Mythbusters.

17.4 % of all statistics are arbitrary.

97% are invented on the spot.

You help me figure out a link between that experiment and robotics that will get my Principal's blessing, and the video will include 6th graders.

you could build a robot to:

1) keep the ice in the middle of the cube
2) keep the water slightly agitated to force out air bubbles

then, build a SECOND robot to:

1) construct a rube goldberg device to pour the soda into a cup with minimal carbonation loss
2) drop the ice into the cup with same minimal loss of carbonation/soda.

That would take way too long for 6th graders and I don't have that kind of time before state testing. I may just have to go solo on this one.

I have seen this done by the way. It just makes a big mess.

njx9 02-06-2012 09:31 PM

for some reason i thought you taught high school... fair enough.

The fact that others are also weird doesn't make you not weird.

BeerBaron 02-07-2012 09:29 AM

I have never done gorilla stairs. That would be incredibly uncomfortable and with my knee made of rubber bands and duct tape, I have enough trouble as it is taking the stairs like a sane person.

^^^I actually remember this happening and I went full blown rage mode too

That's why I don't post lecture notes, and can't comprehend why other profs do.

I did that as a kid, until the time I almost ripped my eyelid off on a clotheshanger that was on the hand rail. Now I walk (or run) upright. Unless there is no handrail, then IDGAF.

b316 02-07-2012 10:14 AM

I used to do that run up that stairs with my hands and feet, so much quicker. Its been 2 years since I stopped that, sometimes I relapse.

Hhaha, the math problem, I first saw her and was like nice it says, sex = fun. But then I'm like wait no that is wrong, its =e^x. I scroll down and see dwight there laying down the law.

The cat and butter thing if I pitch that as my senior design project for engineering you think they might accept it?

When they give you a Nobel Prize, will you accept it?
