Jimmy Rollins and the hit streak...

Jimmy Rollins enters the season attempting to break Joe DiMaggio's hitting streak of 56 games. He currently has a streak of 36 games. Which means he should either break the record this April or early May. The question is do you want Jimmy Rollins to break Joe DiMaggio's record or not? Do you think they should even count the record since last season ended and now beginning again? Who do you want in the record books?
I know he is still 20 games away and is a slow starter but anything is bound to happen.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't count since it is over two seasons. I think there is a completely different record for that. Though the press will tout it as so, but you know.

Records were meant to be broken, but I think DiMaggio's 56 was tougher than Rollins potential 56. Would be nice to see though..

In the record books, it will count.

He won't cause it is really hard to do that at the start of the season, because of the 5 month layoff

Not exactly the same thing. That one was asking "will he do it" and this one is asking "do you want him to do it."

It deserves to be discussed again. There are slight variations in each topic so its different enough.

I love when people break records, because it adds spice to the game. :D

krebstar2000 03-31-2006 05:18 PM

I don't see him breaking it too hard to come back that hot.

njx9 03-31-2006 05:21 PM

for those two people who quoted me: wasn't saying anything either way, just re-linking a similar thread, as i remember there'd been one.

I think baseball loyalists would go insane if Rollins broke the record.

Damix 03-31-2006 05:30 PM

I would like to see him do it. I wonder if try to bunt a hit the first game against Rolen's balky back

jetsfan3 03-31-2006 06:14 PM

I'd love to see it because I heard Domaggio was a prick, but I doubt he will. 20 games is A LOT, especially right out of the gate.

Xiomera 03-31-2006 06:51 PM

He won't do it. He will lose his streak in the third game or so. Rollins is a career .272 hitter. It's gonna take someone like Pujols or Derrek Lee to break such a record. Power and average . . .

He has the spead to leg out the occasional infield hit to keep his streak alive.
