What Marinelli loves most about Redding, who had a team-high eight sacks, is his energy, and he doesn't want to sap it by simply slapping the franchise tag on him.

I wouldn't count on it, he may just decide to play this year under the franchise tender and attempt to reach the open market next year.

On ESPN, John Clayton said as a DT.. He also said that Redding is not happy about it, does not want to stay in Detroit, and is now hoping for a trade.

Good move. In the Lions/Falcons game, the one player that caught my eye was Cory Redding. He was a force, all game long.

And FA takes another hit.

Watch him offer Matt Millen their 1st, but Millen turns it down for reasons only Matt Millen knows.

Wow. That would be a surprise. Putting the franchise tag on a kicker that isn't Adam Vinatieri.

I don't think I've ever heard of a player being tagged and being happy about it.

Well it'd only be around $2 Million, so if they aren't going to use it on another player I don't see why not.

They needed to make this move. I think Redding would be amenable to staying, but he needs to know they are headed in the right direction.
