Bills Sign Dockery-49 Million

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2786149

Wow I am in shock. Dock was good and a borderline pro bowler last year but wow. He is still the most penalized lineman in the NFL and can't pull, but happy for him and his agent to pull that out. Just glad for once it isn't the skins throwing money like this although we are beggining. (sigh)

Contract 7 years 49 million. 23 million the first 3 years.18.5 million in guarantee's

JoeMontainya 03-02-2007 08:49 PM

Thats more than the Browns paid for Eric Steinbach lol. What a joke.

Well actually it was acouple thousand dollars cheaper.

Smokey Joe 03-02-2007 08:50 PM

wtf is going on!?!?!?!?!?!?

Number 10 03-02-2007 08:51 PM

Holy crap re-signing Snee is going to blow.

Canadian_draft_fan 03-02-2007 08:56 PM

I hope non-skins fans out there realize that not paying Dockery that type of money is just good sense. I figured he would get overpaid but $49M - sheer stupidity. Based on some of the signings today it is now apparent that the Skins aren't the only team that makes stupid FA overpayments.

myinnerself 03-02-2007 09:04 PM

I guess the Chargers pretty much have no shot at re-signing Dielman considering what these guards are getting. Absurd dollar amounts, the NFL is all messed up right now with this larger salary cap.

Geo 03-02-2007 09:08 PM

Hmm. The Washington Post previously reported that to be 23 mil over the first 5 years.

3 years probably sounds more likely, although I'm not quite sure who to believe here: on one hand, there's some schlub from the Washington Post; on the other, there's an ass-kissing weasel who couldn't hold Jay Glazer's jock. Just have to wait for another source, I suppose.

Are you kidding me? This league is turning into the MLB. Jesus.

PACKmanN 03-02-2007 09:44 PM

they might be moving him to OT.

Even Worse LOL, good luck at RT, heard the same happening to Steinbach.

princefielder28 03-02-2007 09:45 PM

This reminds me of baseball and the lack of free agent talent so teams panic and overpay, but he's still a quality player

JoeMontainya 03-02-2007 09:45 PM

How did he get for the most part the same money Steinbach did?

umm, no? where did you come up with that?

Vikes99ej 03-02-2007 10:13 PM

Why did the Bills pay Dockery the same amount that we paided Steve Hutchinson? This confuses me. Is Dockery as good as Steve Hutchinson?

The cap went up.

Not enough for him to be signed to that contract. The million dollar question is why they paid him Hutch money, unbelievable.

swagger 03-02-2007 11:55 PM

Steve Hutchinson, the best OG in football, is looking pretty good at 7 years $49 million. Just a year ago people were ripping the Vikes regarding how badly they overpaid.

Leon Sandcastle 03-03-2007 12:09 AM

So there are reports that the contract is essentially 5 years for 23 Million.

rocco31fb 03-03-2007 04:56 AM

EVery year teams will over pay at a position. Bills have a lot of room and have to pay guys that much. Why else would you play in Buffalo? The Bills money isn't worth the same as the Broncos or Chargers money (as examples). Once the Bills start winning, they can lower their price because the player will want to play for a contender.

21ST 03-03-2007 08:56 AM

Damn, they paid an average guard that much damn money.....wow

omecool20 03-03-2007 09:25 AM

He is way overrated for the kind of blings2 he is getting. The Skins were not going to offer that kind of money. I would say that his agent got him the money.

No he has 18 million in guarantees spread over 7 years, they are not going to pay him just $5 million dollars in salary. It means that they will take a hit against the cap of around $23 million in essence they will have paid him something close to $30 plus million.

He just isnt that good. A good deal would have been 5 years 25 million with say 10.5 guaranteed that is his worth.

Dock is a decent straight ahead blocker, but he cannot pull to save his life. Also if you delay the blitz on him look out it is a sack.

I give him a B grade as a player, but if you compare him to say Randy Thomas our other guard he just doesn't stand the comparison.

BuffaloDraftGeek 03-03-2007 01:12 PM

Not as bad as you guys make it sound. Bills have A LOT of cap room now, so they're frontloading the contract. He makes 23 of that 49 over the first 3 years. That means he makes only 26 million over the last four. Did they overpay? Yes, but so has everyone else. The cap went up, and so did price tags.

The Legend 03-03-2007 01:13 PM

way way way to much
