Is Cedric Benson back?

Has he shed his epic bust label and established himself as a starting-caliber running back in this league? Those last couple performances really impressed me, I'm Pretty sure the Bengals wouldn't have won more than two games if not for him. Where do you think his future lies, and are you ready to proclaim that he's 'back' ?

illmatic74 12-29-2008 08:41 PM

Simple answer no.

BlindSite 12-29-2008 08:49 PM

Its a start.

illmatic74 12-29-2008 08:50 PM

There is a small chance he could have a Thomas Jones like reinassance.

locseti 12-29-2008 08:51 PM

I'm trying to think of any other Rb's that were drafted that high, fell off fast, and then were able to rebound. Drawing a blank. I think it's pretty impressive,

ya, i guess he'd have to return to a place he's already been to in order to be "back"

Comparing Cedric Benson...... to Ron Dayne.

I don't think one big tearing up of Cleveland in addition to rushing for barely 3.0 ypc other than that really qualifies him as 4th overall pick material.

Maybe I'm a little spiteful because he burned the Bears, but no one else in that draft was worth a damn and without Benson, we wouldn't have what we have in Forte.

Maybe he can rebound and be a halfway decent thunder to someone's lightning, but I doubt he ever becomes a great NFL back or even TJones level.

Well over his last three games he's had at least 130 yds from scrimmage each time.. Granted two of them were against KC and CLE, but you could say Cincy is equally as bad as those teams,

OK you Bear fans saw how he ran like a scared little girl, are you surprised he was able to have some success with Cincinnati of all teams?

It is a little surprising but keep in mind that, even wtih Fitzpatrick at QB, opposing defenses still needed to respect CJ and Housh. Just that extra step or two back the safeties played may have given Benson some help. And like it was said.....these teams he was beating up of late weren't the greatest defenses in the world.

bearsfan_51 12-29-2008 09:14 PM

I don't think Benson ever ran scared to be honest, he just ran very mediocre. Benson is a pretty tough guy, and I think those that questioned his toughness (Superbowl injury issue aside) are probably just sour grapes. Unless you were implying something else with the girl comment.

Am I suprised that he's done ok with Cincy? Not really. It's really just a matter of perception. Say that Alex Smith went to St. Louis and won a few games with a roughly even td/int ratio. That would have been awful for a first round pick, but as a first round bust it's not bad.

I don't think, however, that Benson has a long career in front of him. In part because he is a massive asshole, and nobody likes him.

tjsunstein 12-29-2008 09:28 PM

He wasn't very good to begin with. So in a way, he's back... to being average at best.

BmoreBlackByrdz 12-29-2008 09:28 PM

I read somewhere that hes going to test the FA market. lmao, he'd be lucky to get a starting caliber job anywhere but Cincy. Cincy is his best option and his best shot at a chance at turning his pathetic career around, if hes smart he'll stay there.

regoob2 12-29-2008 09:29 PM

Benson has always had talent. To bad you cant teach someone to care.

I bet he scorezed good on his wondurlick!!111

bearsfan_51 12-29-2008 09:32 PM

Actually Benson is a pretty bright guy, he just made some bad life choices and has a really ****** attitude. I bet he would test pretty well.

themaninblack 12-29-2008 09:35 PM

He's done well with a patchwork offensive line and I am confident enough in him to re-sign him for the right price. We'd need to get a RB to complement him with some speed/quickness but he can probably be about the same type of player Rudi Johnson was for us. He seems to be reinvigorated now that he is out of Chicago.

Everibodyz scorez gud on dat.

Seriously, I bet he scored a 19. ;)

jkpigskin 12-29-2008 09:37 PM

the best thing for cincy and benson would be to get a speedy back in the draft and have benson as a part of a 1,2 punch.. i mean.. sure he had 2 huge games against 2 of the worst defenses but they are still big games so that means he can play in this league, but maybe not as a premier back

Zyro_1014 12-29-2008 09:42 PM

Cincy has amazing runningbacks let me tell ya lol.
