Impact Freshmen

What Freshmen will have the biggest Impact this year and on your team? Kyle Prater,Robert Woods and Dillon Baxter should all have an impact on USC. Jeff Luc and Lamarcus Joyner should be huge for FSU this year. Discuss.

Brent 07-10-2010 09:43 AM

put money on Luke Joeckel starting at LT for the Aggies.

RealityCheck 07-10-2010 10:14 AM

Marcus Lattimore, RB from USCar. Will be contending for the Doak Walker imo.

And if we're counting RS Freshmen, yeah, Bryn Renner will take over as UNC's QB and skyrocket to the #1 overall spot in 2012.

TE CJ Fiedorohalsojfwiz for Iowa. We have our decent, but experienced all around TE with Senior Allen Reisner. After that, we have some younger guys that supposedly have shown glimpses, but wouldn't be close to starting if need be.

I could definitely see CJ come in just as a receiving threat since he's probably D1 ready in that regard, and would be pretty dangerous. Plus Iowa loves to use TE sets, so Reisner in to be used as a normal TE with CJ as a receiving threat.

Are you excited for "Long Tight End Touchdown" and "Long Tight End Touchdown #2" against Michigan? Don't worry. I think the plan this year is for the LBs to at least pretend to cover Iowa's tight ends.

JRTPlaya21 07-10-2010 03:41 PM

Lache Seastrunk for the Ducks.

Hines 07-10-2010 03:46 PM

TRUE FRESHMEN

LB Mike Hull
FB Zach Zwinak
LB Khairi Fortt
DT Evan Hailes

All of them on special teams. I could see the rest RS. Alex Kenney could make an impact returning and could crack the depth chart at CB. Paul Jones and Robert Bolden should RS to get better.

RS FRESHMAN

CB Derrick Thomas
RB Curtis Dukes
WR Shawney Kersey

DJ Fluker, redshirt freshman RT at Alabama.

He's the only freshman on a veteran front 5 on the Tide OL so he can have the vets carry him somewhat if he frails.

Top 5 nationally ranked OL recruit 2 yrs. ago, the 6-6, 340-lb. freshman was humbled in the April A-Day Spring Game when Marcel Dareus flung him aside in a pass rush & Fluker got asschewed by Saban on national TV, welcome to the bigtime, DJ. Heisman winner Ingram & Richardson are expected to run left behind sr. OLT James Carpenter but the defenses know that, so I expect Saban to run counterplays behind Fluker. ESPN commented last wk. that Alabama runs the Anti-Spread running offense most of the time where they expect their front 5 to simply overpower the defenses & create running lanes, that's a big expectation for a freshman OL. Saban mixes it up too, opening their last 3 games vs. rival Auburn, Florida, then Texas in the shotgun & passing so he will be expected to pass block too.

He will have to drink from the firehose this yr. to be an impact freshman b/c he will face stellar DEs Cliff Matthews (SCAR), Jake Bequette (Arkansas), Pernell McPhee (Miss. St.), & Kentrell Lockett (Ole Miss) in the regular season, & if the Tide draws #2-ranked Ohio St. in a NC game as expected I'm sure the Buckeyes will put Cameron Heyward on the freshman. Fluker may have to grow up in a big hurry.

dannyz 07-10-2010 05:21 PM

Hightower also pancaked Fluker too. What about Eddie Lacy ? I know he will not get alot of playing time but could play the same role as Upchruch did last year.

Well, our TE(s) will just pretend like they are blocking by standing still for like 10 seconds, then turning around wide open. Apparently just standing still and acting like you didn't know the ball was snapped is not defendable.

JFLO 07-10-2010 06:21 PM

Ohio State is bound to have a wide receiver have a decent impact this year, most likely James Louis or even Corey Brown if he decides to play wide receiver, but he'll most likely land at cornerback.

I haven't heard of any of the players redshirting just yet, but another one that I think could see at least a little bit of valuable playing time is Darryl Baldwin, massive defensive end from Solon, OH.

Redshirt freshman would be

DL Melvin Fellows
WR Chris Fields, who I think is underrated and has legit 4.4. speed
LB Jordan Whiting

I don't think any of these guys (maybe besides James Louis) are going to have the Trent Richardson or Andrew Luck type impacts, but will have solid contributions nonetheless.

wicket 07-10-2010 06:41 PM

True freshmen:
WR Tai-ler Jones

looks like TJ might become the slot-receiver or at the very least #4 on the depth chart in an offense starting 3-wides usually, kid looked great in the spring.

DT Louis Nix (maybe)

Dont see Louis playing tbh but he has the talent to do so. With some college conditioning the kid could be great though. Just wanted to put a second true freshman out there

Redshirt Freshmen

RB Cierre Wood

Will be second or third at the depth chart but Kelly has a tendancy to spread the carries around

OG Chris Watt/OT Zach Martin

May depend a little on how the line is filled but could easily see quite a bit of playing time. It will probably be one or the other as it depends on the spot that Trevor Robinson will eventually play. Zach Martin could actually be the starter at LT in the end

DT Tyler Stockton

This is the guy who i expect to spell with Ian Williams at the nose, very talented, just curious about him.

Not much freshman presence for the irish and there were quite a few of last years class who already saw the field (teo, evans, toma, riddick(who I have really high expectations of), taush, turk, motta and cowart all played as true freshmen)

BRAVEHEART 07-10-2010 06:46 PM

For USC, hmmm only one I could see having a real "Impact" is Kyle Prater. While good, Baxter will share carries with Bradford and Gable (with Bradford getting atleast 75% of the carries).

phlysac 07-10-2010 08:22 PM

I don't see any True Freshman having a big impact at Pitt. T.J. Clemmings is appealing but he is behind the DE depth chart that includes Greg Romeus, Jabaal Sheard, and Shayne Hale.

These RS Freshmen, I believe may have immediate impact on the team...

Devin Street - Wide Receiver

Jack Lippert - Center

Kolby Gray - Safety

dannyz 07-10-2010 08:40 PM

Darius White and Marcus Lattimore should have big Impacts.

dannyz 07-11-2010 05:54 PM

Michael Dyer should have an Impact.

Don Vito 07-11-2010 06:34 PM

Shakim Phillips should for BC, he is talented and the Eagles are pretty thin at the position.

For Ole Miss, look for WR Vincent Sanders to make an impact. We graduated Shay Hodge, Dex, and Patrick Patterson was just booted off the team so Sanders could possibly start as a true freshman. He is really lanky which could be an issue, he was a top recruit last year and is very gifted but I would prefer to not throw him into the fire but it might have to happen. FB Martez Easterland is another frosh to watch.

dannyz 07-12-2010 01:08 AM

Does anybody have a full list of the Jersey #'s the Freshmen will be wearing.

gpngc 07-12-2010 01:16 AM

Anyone know how Seastrunk looked in Spring?

dannyz 07-12-2010 01:58 AM

I know the #'s of USC Players but nothing else.

Texas Homer 07-12-2010 02:06 AM

Texas

WR-Mike Davis

DE-Jackson Jeffcoat

DE-Reggie Wilson

LB-Jordan Hicks

DT-Ashton Dorsey

dannyz 07-12-2010 02:10 AM

Jeffcoat sould be good along side Alex Okafor.

RealityCheck 07-12-2010 11:11 AM

What about Jake Heaps from BYU? Is he going to start right off?
