Taiwan Jones, RB, Eastern Washington

I just looked him up after I saw Prince's ranking.
Pretty impressive.
Any other information on this guy?
I feel like he could be the next Danny Woodhead type pick.

This is Taiwan Jones.

Not too concerned about the level of competition either. We've seen a bunch of successful RB's come out of small schools in the past.

Youtube him. He's a pretty good back, could be a 4th-5th Round Pick. A back with pretty good size, speed, and overall ability. Put up big numbers this season albeit against low competition.

ElectricEye 01-17-2011 09:37 PM

I brought him up with Scott once and he put him in that range as well. He's got a lot of attractive qualities for a small school guy. Hope we get to see him at the combine posssibly.

JPP90 01-17-2011 10:14 PM

He's got a lot of competition at mid-round RB. He's gotta do something to stand out. Not a great RB class at the top but very very deep in quality backs that will contribute in some way. I'm sure he's one of them but to max out his draft potential he's gotta put on a show at the Combine.

Reminds me of Taiwanese Hot Sauce! :D

I didn't know if I was more in-tuned with watching Jones or that red turf.

Looks like he's got good burst, excellent balance, not nearly as fast as he is quick, looks to catch the ball well, carries the ball in either hand. I've heard reports that he has battled the injury bug quite a bit. He could be an interesting pick up for a team that already has a big back and wants a complementary guy (Bucs, Rams, Browns).

jsang74 01-18-2011 01:44 AM

He is very quick and fast but has had a ton of injury problems that have kept him off the field.

Scott Wright 01-18-2011 02:02 AM

I need to see some more of Jones and there are some durability concerns. With that said, Josh Buchanan, who follows the small school prospects better than anyone is really high on the guy and that speaks volumes to me. I would say somewhere in that Rounds 3-5 range.

Duffman57 01-18-2011 05:09 AM

He's a weird guy. He doesn't look close to 200 at all. In the highlights he looks REALLY thin, but we'll see if he gets to the combine though. He looks like he could be a good return specialist at the very least. He could be a good 3rd down back, but i have concerns if he has any chance of doing anything in pass protection.

FUNBUNCHER 01-18-2011 05:46 AM

Is 'Taiwan' his nickname, or on his birth certificate???

Real name.

Also, found this from an ESPN article as I had heard watching a game him and Best used to duke it out on the track.

As a high school seniors, Jones ran against Best for the 100-meter title at the California Interscholastic Federation Championships. After they finished with the two best times in the preliminaries, Best won the title with a wind-aided time of 10.31. Jones settled for fourth with a 10.58 clocking, but during the year had a 10.53 time to his credit. Best's best was a 10.36 clocking.

Considering he is nearly 6' tall, 200 lbs is fairly thin.

I think he has skinny legs and most of his production in that video (which is all I've seen from him) comes as a direct results of his opponents being horrible at tackling. That doesn't really warrant a selection that early, does it?

Master Exploder 01-18-2011 01:44 PM

His body looks like a WR to me. I don't see any bulk on him at all. He even kind of runs like a WR runs.

Still though, he could be intriguing. I'd like to see him at the combine if he gets an invite.

Yeah I agree. That was one of the first things I noticed in that video. If he shows he can run routes well he would be more interesting imo.

Caulibflower 01-18-2011 05:20 PM

He's got nothing but speed. He's tall and skinny, runs high (like... a sprinter) and didn't play against guys who were near his ability level. In his videos, he just runs around like a kid on a playground playing tag; the other guys just have a hard time getting a hold on him. But that won't be the case in the NFL, and I really don't see anything in his game that makes me think he'll be a good running back other than his timed speed. He does the stop-and-start thing a lot, and that bugs the hell outta me when I'm scouting running backs.

No.

Danny Woodhead is much stockier. Jones looks like he'd snap right in half if Troy Polamalu hit him right. He's super skinny. And he doesn't run with any power; Danny Woodhead was always known as a workout guy. I guess I don't know that Jones isn't in the weight room a lot, but... he looks twiggy. And all his long runs are these long, looping things where he hits an enormous hole and sprints to the endzone, or puts a move on a guy and then runs around him to the outside. Not a fan of Jones. I can see him as a gadget-type guy with his speed an receiving ability, but he's not an NFL running back. He's kind of like a less-talented Reggie bush in the way he runs, and Reggie Bush sucks.

RealityCheck 01-19-2011 04:32 AM

I just love EWU's red turf.

Liked what I saw from Taiwan so far, could be a solid situational back in the pros. 5th-6th rounder right now.

JaxJag_1 01-19-2011 04:02 PM

He's Jerious Norwood 2.0... I just hope he Taiwan can stay healthy in the NFL, unlike Norwood. Jerious has been a good back when he's been healthy.

Grizzlegom 01-19-2011 04:23 PM

He wasn't on the official underclassmen list released today, anyone know if he never hired an agent and is going back or if it was just an oversight?

JaxJag_1 01-19-2011 05:20 PM

He is declaring, he was an accidental omission.

wogitalia 01-19-2011 10:10 PM

He actually looks a lot like Peterson when he runs, minus the violent finishing which probably has a lot to do with the 25 pound difference.

Love his change of direction abilities, is very good at shifting his body weight and maintaining speed.

I think he could be a good complement to a bigger back but I do agree that the way he runs actually feels like a WR which is a position he would have great size at and possibly good speed as well. Combine will be huge for him assuming he is invited of course. He actually could have a future as a slot back because he does look deadly in space.

Also... coolest name in the draft or what?
