Morons. I know Manning isn't a top-five safety, but he is Chicago's best safety and the best available free agent safety (assuming the Weddle back to San Diego stuff is true).

lol. Giants may get ******. Bradshaw and the Dolphins are in serious talks and have emerged as the front runner.

If Bradshaw gets close to D-Will's money, they can have him. We'll find someone else at a fraction of the cost.

HeavyLeggedWaistBender 07-27-2011 01:06 PM

Sure would like Chicago to an offensive lineman that's worth a **** soon.

Hurricanes25 07-27-2011 01:07 PM

The Jets are very interested in Randy Moss. He would provide a nice redzone target for Sanchez.

Exactly. Time and time again people need to realize paying big money to a back is not the way to go. I like Bradshaw a lot and want him back but if he's going to get overpaid I hope it's not by us.

bearfan 07-27-2011 01:08 PM

Suprised that Dwill got resigned for that much when they have Jstew and Goodson who are both talented runners.

Waste of money for the Panthers if you ask me.

proshoota25 07-27-2011 01:10 PM

in other news, matt leinart will in fact not sign with the seahawks, and will resign wit the texans

Depends on the back. I wouldnt over pay for Bradshaw either. Time to start compiling an alternatives list.

Hey Tiki! haha

Not going to happen. I'm pretty sure JA is trying to lose all of the good will he gained from Chicago fans after a pretty good draft.

killxswitch 07-27-2011 01:13 PM

Meanwhile watch some UDFA win the rushing title next year. Again. Running backs are not worth the money unless they are really, really special. I like DWill but not that much.

Agreed 100%. I read it and thought it was downright stupid. (And here will come Blindsite to tell us how he's a top 5 player in the league regardless of position.)

You do not invest that much in a running back. Period. And it's even dumber given the fact they have two other very capable backs.

This is Carolina trying to claw their way to the salary floor by giving their own guys huge paydays.

Where did you hear this? I would love the move the Chiefs have nothing but questionmarks after Bowe.

diabsoule 07-27-2011 01:18 PM

Lance Moore has agreed on a 5 year deal with the Saints. The Saints have also signed LB Will Herring.

This is my big concern. Those contracts are now on the books and other free agents will point to those as starting points. But they're artificially inflated by these teams with tons of cap room trying to get up to the floor. It would piss me off if I was a front office guy on another team.

Contrary to popular belief, Carolina wasn't cheap until the the uncapped year. And that was due to the lockout uncertainty.

I'll bet anyone Carolina is well above the floor by 2013 (to avoid spending recklessly)

I pointed out previously that in 2009, the last year with a cap and floor, the floor was 87.5% of the cap. In this CBA, it's about 90% of the cap, and the cap is a lower number ($120 million down from $128 million.)

It's just that teams like Carolina used last year to get so far under where the floor would have been, they have no choice but to do stuff like this.

It is bad for other teams trying to be more frugal, but if other free agents genuinely think they can deals like that with new teams, they are gravely mistaken. They'll get laughed out of the room a few times, tone down their demands, and get signed to more reasonable deals.

So I don't think it will hurt other teams too badly.

Hines 07-27-2011 01:26 PM

Jabar Gaffney got traded to the Skins for Jeremy Jarmon. Weird.

Komp 07-27-2011 01:28 PM

Weddle staying in SD

Am I the only division rival happy to see Eric Weddle staying in SD? I think that is ridiculous amount of money for a marginal safety, but it seems like most ppl on here like him.

They're already spending recklessly in my opinion. Giving that kind of money to a running back in today's league is foolish, and it looks even worse given that they have two other capable backs already on the roster.

I bet too that they'll be easily above the floor in two years, and a good portion of it will be getting paid to Johnson and Williams.

We still haven't heard a word on Blalock or Dahl but yeah. Nothing but Willie Colon...After Bears fans had gone so far as to daydream about uber bust Bobert Gallery.

That's how far we've let the bar slip and they still deny us that.

Hines 07-27-2011 01:30 PM

Jesus Carolina.

They just signed Olindo Mare for 4 years, 12 million and a 4 million dollar signing bonus.

diabsoule 07-27-2011 01:31 PM

K Olindo Mare to the Panthers on a 4 yr deal for $12mil with a $4mil signing bonus. Also sign TE Ben Harstock

Maybe he didn't think he would make the Seahawks roster.

That's not just a joke.

Any word on Whitner, Bigby, or Landry?

Hines 07-27-2011 01:49 PM

The Texans gave Leinart 3.75 million in guarentees. Jesus.

killxswitch 07-27-2011 01:51 PM

Ha ha a $12M contract for a kicker. WTF is Carolina doing? They could spend like this but on more or better players. Wow.

gpngc 07-27-2011 01:53 PM

Guys, veterans are going to get more money with the new rookie wage system... we knew guys were going to get "over"paid because of it. That cash usually went to undeserving rookies.

Also...

OKUNG -- GALLERY -- UNGER -- MOFFIT -- CARPENTER

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

prock 07-27-2011 01:55 PM

While I hated that the Seahawks took Carpenter in round 1, I absolutely love what they have done with their line. That is gonna be a ballin line in a year or two.

proshoota25 07-27-2011 01:56 PM

Delhomme to get cut by Browns.
