This is my big concern. Those contracts are now on the books and other free agents will point to those as starting points. But they're artificially inflated by these teams with tons of cap room trying to get up to the floor. It would piss me off if I was a front office guy on another team.

Contrary to popular belief, Carolina wasn't cheap until the the uncapped year. And that was due to the lockout uncertainty.

I'll bet anyone Carolina is well above the floor by 2013 (to avoid spending recklessly)

I pointed out previously that in 2009, the last year with a cap and floor, the floor was 87.5% of the cap. In this CBA, it's about 90% of the cap, and the cap is a lower number ($120 million down from $128 million.)

It's just that teams like Carolina used last year to get so far under where the floor would have been, they have no choice but to do stuff like this.

It is bad for other teams trying to be more frugal, but if other free agents genuinely think they can deals like that with new teams, they are gravely mistaken. They'll get laughed out of the room a few times, tone down their demands, and get signed to more reasonable deals.

So I don't think it will hurt other teams too badly.

Am I the only division rival happy to see Eric Weddle staying in SD? I think that is ridiculous amount of money for a marginal safety, but it seems like most ppl on here like him.

They're already spending recklessly in my opinion. Giving that kind of money to a running back in today's league is foolish, and it looks even worse given that they have two other capable backs already on the roster.

I bet too that they'll be easily above the floor in two years, and a good portion of it will be getting paid to Johnson and Williams.

We still haven't heard a word on Blalock or Dahl but yeah. Nothing but Willie Colon...After Bears fans had gone so far as to daydream about uber bust Bobert Gallery.
