Ugh. We're going to overpay him, he's going to wear down within 2-3 years and become a cap burden.

Never pay running backs. Draft one in the 2nd-4th rounds every other year, cycle through them, trade them when their contract is about up and if you can't, just let them go. It's easily the worst place to invest big money on an NFL team.

I would have moved him long ago, myself. Bush at 14 million for 4 years is a steal...Use Hester out of the backfield as a change of pace like the Vikings do with Percy...Bears could be so awesome.

bigbluedefense 07-14-2012 04:09 PM

Na Forte is worth extending. At the right price. I wouldn't invest more than 5 mill a season in my backfield.

At 8 mill which is what he's gonna get, it's a bit high, but for the next 2 to 3 years it's worth it. Especially since the Bears have a small window for a championship, that defense is getting old fast, they're a win now team.

Cedric Benson expected to sign with the Packers.

I like the move for GB. Benson is pretty solid in pass protection and can still be an effective back in a platoon system.

Expect Benson gets pissed when you don't give him all the carries.

WCH 08-10-2012 09:36 PM

Packer fans are already freaking out because Benson has a criminal record. I don't get it...when TT came to Green Bay, he was known as a guy who wasn't afraid to take risks on guys who were "character concerns." Since he's been in Green Bay, he's taken risks on guys who were "character concerns." Everytime they do it though, Packer fans act shocked, because the guy isn't "Packer People."

I'm more worried about the fact that Benson is old, and this must mean that they think their RBs blow.

I'm sure Benson will get 12 of the 17 carries a game, or whatever GB averages. If you're a RB and you willingly sign with the Packers, you're desperate and you aren't expecting many carries.

I would be more worried that Benson has had trouble holding onto the ball lately.

He will also get pissed if you don't run him atleast 30 times a game.

I think this is like the Seattle signing of TO: he's out of options and he'll keep his mouth shut. Or he'll get cut.

LonghornsLegend 08-10-2012 10:48 PM

James Starks looks really bad. It's crazy that he had some impressive games as a rookie especially in the playoffs and now he's just turned into crap. Or he at least looks like it. He hasn't developed at all. I expected durability concerns but he still looks bad when he plays.

BeerBaron 08-10-2012 10:49 PM

Also, Benson isn't a great blocker or pass catcher. You are basically getting a guy who can plow into the back of your o-line for 3 yards or so.

So you're telling me that he's an older version of every other RB on their roster?

I've been saying this for three years now: I don't think Green Bay takes the RB position seriously. You would think they'd at least go out and get a guy who's good in pass protection, or a guy who's a threat as a receiver out of the backfield. The decent RB they've had under TT/MM was Ryan Grant, and that was just a lucky trade.

I really think that they just don't care.

SolidGold 08-12-2012 04:06 PM

Benson officially signed. Also the Jags cut Lee Evans

tjsunstein 08-12-2012 04:11 PM

I would have looked elsewhere for RB help, Benson is worth nothing to us.

Ghost of Juice 08-14-2012 01:49 PM

Looks like Demps is gonna try the nfl.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/82...ing-nfl-career

Ron 08-14-2012 01:59 PM

I def expect a team will pick up Demps.

Ghost of Juice 08-14-2012 02:02 PM

I hope my team does thats for sure.

49erNation85 08-15-2012 05:42 PM

Yup no doubt Demps would be a weapon on any team in the Nfl. glad he is a getting a chance after doing the Olympics. Was gonna post this up too. Would be a good spot in the bucks to be a return man possible or back up HB .

LonghornsLegend 08-15-2012 06:16 PM

Is anybody really that surprised that all 3 of Rainey, Holliday, and Demps will be in the NFL returning kicks? These guys have world class speed, there is always room for that. You can even find a few plays a game to get them in on offense, because the proper set up on a screen pass and they can score from anywhere.

I love it. Guys like Holliday returning kicks are invaluable.

K Train 08-17-2012 12:09 PM

would have really liked the steelers to bring him in. Let demps and rainey compete for slot/3rddb/kr/pr....woulda been fun to watch those little midgets run around

Demps and Rainey would constitute cheating in my book. You have enough offensive weapons lol.

You'd have all that but not a single healthy back capable of effectively toting the rock up the middle.

I thought Arians was fired and Haley brought into "restore Steeler football" on offense.

oh please do define "steeler football" that rah rah smashmouth **** from the 70s????? arians was a ****** gameplanner and a horrific schemer/playcaller. Haley was brought in to be more effective with what he has, which is offensive weapons from the QB to the top 3 Wrs right now. The steelers stable of backs leaves much to be desired but at least we shouldnt expect running single back out of 3 TE sets and single back out of 5 wide sets, and stuff like draws and tosses at the worst possible moments. I would expect him to use what he has to their potential, which isnt like the passing game he had in AZ and it isnt like the run game he had in KC...its somewhere in the middle

There was a lot of intended sarcasm in my statement. It's a lot of old timers and media folk who want that "Steelers football" to return.

K Train 08-17-2012 01:20 PM

oh thank god. i loathe the expression, the idea, the mentality

WCH 08-17-2012 02:22 PM

I'm not positive, but I think "Steeler Football" is one of those things that never really existed in the first place.

vernon gholston a ram

i liked him SO MUCH more than i liked chris long :-(

LonghornsLegend 08-23-2012 10:56 AM

Although he was always a horrible fit in a 3-4 nobody ever envisioned him being such a ***** regarding contact and have a lazy attitude towards working hard to improve. Big muscles can only take you so far.

b316 08-26-2012 11:08 PM

Vonte Davis on the Colts. Man a nickle Cb traded for a second round pick, well he got demoted to nickle.

katnip 08-27-2012 07:55 PM

Not official yet. But there's websites/sources saying the Jets swapped Wayne Hunter for Jason Smith (Rams OL).

I realize that Jason Smith is a massive bust, but who would actually want to trade for Wayne Hunter?

So the Rams are trading a bag of piss for a sack of ****? Seems like a downgrade.

LonghornsLegend 08-27-2012 08:10 PM

Hoooray for trading cow **** for horse ****. Most pointless trade ever.
