Oh, I'm aware, it just saddens me. I'm glad I don't need a QB right now.

You mean throwing for nearly 400 against a ****** defense that wasnt trying doesnt equate to a huge contract?

Whats going on with Alex Smith?

he was offered a 3 year deal, but the belief is that he his holding out for more guaranteed money/years.

Condon client. I'm sure he's awaiting the Manning market, too. Unfortunate. He needs to sign the deal.

Take a 2 year 10 mil with a chance to compete for starting spot

Thunder&Lightning 03-14-2012 09:12 PM

1. Shaub
2. Cassel
3. Flynn
4. Kolb

Alex Smith holding out. The very statement just brings a smile.

Kevin Kolb killed his market.

Kolb is too fresh in everyone's minds.

bearsfan_51 03-14-2012 09:13 PM

Matt Flynn makes Kevin Kolb look like Peyton Manning in terms of credentials.

You mean the market of mediocre QBs who had like 2 good starts ever then were made starters for a sum far greater than their actual worth? That market?

bigbluedefense 03-14-2012 09:15 PM

Not really. Both have 2 games on their resume and a bunch of preseason games.

They're the same resume. Kolb was awful in preseason though, I'm not sure how Flynn looked in the PS.

Plus Kolb looked awful in every other regular season game he played in other than those 2 games vs JV defensive squads.

Yup.

That market might be officially dead for a couple of years. Give it 2 or 3 years though and someone will gamble again. Teams have short term memory.

Are we talking about MVP Flynn? It wasn't nearly 400 yards it was 480 and 6 TDs!!! :D

Well he did get hyped up alot I do think he deserves a chance somewhere. He has gotten better each year hes been around and shown potential. He was in a pretty good place with alot of weapons but those didnt help Brian Brohm who was ****ing horrible. There are definitely worse QBs who have been given opportunities to start.

Pat Sims 90 03-14-2012 09:18 PM

Guard Nate Livings visting Cowboys thursday. Plz sign him so i don't have to see him in Cincy anymore.

Matt Flynn was a 7th round pick. Kevin Kolb was taken with the 36th pick. That's the difference in my eyes. Kolb was highly regarded as a rookie and showed some of that promise in spurts. Flynn was never highly regarded, and while it's easy to get excited about his performances in a vacuum, I think the relative positioning of the two matters.

In what possible way? Number of starts?

Kevin Kolb in Philadelphia: 7 starts|60.8% completion|2082 yards|6.5 avg|11TD|14INT| sub 76 QB rating

Matt Flynn in Green Bay: 2 starts|62.1% completion|1015 yards|7.7 avg|9 TD|5INT|92.8 QB rating

So yeah, Kolb might have had more playing time, but he also sucked a lot more in that playing time.

I don't think Sanchez's monster contract helps the Niners/Smith situation either. Smith, to him and his agent, clearly outperformed the "pretty Boy" from NY last season and he got rewarded with a 16 mil per year extension? Alex Smith's camp will definately use this as a starting point and probably already has.

I have a feeling that over the course of 5 more starts against not-the-Lions, his stats would average back out to a mediocre level.

Aren't teams ever going to learn by now that giving huge bucks to back up QBs on the market is extremely risky? There's a reason the Packers would not franchise Flynn because there was a huge chance they would be stuck with him for 14 million.

The fact that Miami hasn't signed him yet is a clear flag. Yeah sure, they want Manning. But remember, he's only a 2 year rental, IF he's 100% even. Only teams like the Titans or Broncos, who have a young QB that could sit and learn from Manning, would do this deal. Tennesee finished 8-8 last year, they have a solid team in fold that can improve.

Babylon 03-14-2012 09:29 PM

Matt Flynn in town (Seattle). My guess is the Hawks will offer him a nice little contract. My guess is it's either here or Miami.

How does that matter? They were both backups and who in limited time, shined. Once Kolb got more time, he regressed, as teams adjusted and he could not.

Flynn hasn't had enough time for me to evaluate. He's looked very good in limited action, but that's over the course of what, a couple games here and there? Could that Detroit game have been the performance of his life? I mean, that was his 1 and ONLY display for teams. He didn't do taht all season.

His best bet is in Miami, where he knows the offense. The fact he hasn't signed there yet is a red flag, in my opinion.

Do the Seahawks still have Whitehurst?
