Broncos sign CB Tracy Porter
1 year, $4 million

BeerBaron 03-23-2012 07:26 AM

The Broncos are making a late push for the offseason championship. Good move to bring in Porter...Andre Caldwell too a few days ago. Not world beaters but still guys who can do some good for the team.

Boo. I would have liked him back as special teamer. Don't expect much from him on defense, but he'll be a beast tackler on special teams.

That is a bigger loss for the Bears than most probably think. He offered nothing as a corner but he is among the best special teamers in the league. I can't fault him for going somewhere that might offer him more defensive playing time though. Hopefully somebody on the team or late in the draft can replace his ST ability.

Well, we did already sign Eric Weems and Blake Costanzo who are purely special teams players.

Graham won't be easy to outright replace, but Toub will make someone else work. He always does.

Andre will cause more damage than good.
Over on the Bengals boards someone had Dalton's INTs by target.
It was somewhere around 50% were towards Caldwell

Peyton has turned far less talented receivers into adequate targets. Give him a little time there. At most, he'll be a #3/#4 WR anyway, so anything he can provide will be valuable. And if Peyton doesn't like him, Peyton won't throw to him.

As someone else said,
"Goddamn it Andre!"

Yeah, and Donald Brown didn't get used all that much while Peyton was at QB, did he? (When Addai wasn't hurt anyway...hell I think Peyton preferred Mike Hart to Brown.)

Bengals78 03-23-2012 09:07 AM

"Of Dalton's 12 INTs this year:

1 was intended for Simpson
1 was intended for Gresham
3 were intended for AJ

and....SEVEN were intended for Caldwell."

37 receptions on the season for him BTW

BeerBaron 03-23-2012 09:12 AM

Your stats don't shock me. We had Roy Williams at receiver last year...he had what had to be the least efficient season of anyone ever. He was on the field for 600 snaps (most of our offense) and caught 37 passes.....

Matthew Jones 03-23-2012 09:16 AM

Andre Caldwell was on the field for 497 snaps as well and had a terrible season. It's possible that Peyton Manning could get some sort of production out of him, but why force Peyton to MacGyver together a passing attack with the likes of Andre Caldwell?

Well the Broncos didn't really have much beyond Thomas and Decker, and Caldwell has talent. Coaches love guys that have talent and they always think they can be the one to get the player to "put it together."

Broncos sign TE Joel Dreessen:

Definitely an improvement over any TE we had.

Do you have any thoughts on Spencer Larsen or Daniel Fells? Right now it seems like Larsen will fill a reserve role as a fullback/linebacker/special teams contributor while Daniel Fells will be more of a receiving option in New England.

brat316 03-23-2012 10:02 AM

They still didn't sign Tamme? I guess they can't let Manning have everything he wants.

BB will find a way to make Larsen into a kicker. he's very versatile and will probably get a bunch of red-zone opportunities. very patriot-esque player. fells is average. shows flashes of brillance. two very patriot-y signings.

Most of the time, I didn't even notice that you guys had him on the field...

Larsen is the kind of jack-of-all-trades guy that BB can make good use of. I don't particularly like his blocking in the run game, but he's a smart guy who is great on special teams and can contribute in various ways on offense. He looked good at LB the few chances he's had.

Fells has some talent. He made a few highlight reel plays for us last year but his hands aren't entirely reliable. He was our #1 TE last year and as such did a lot of run blocking - I'd say he was adequate in that role.

Free agent OT Barry Richardson visited the Rams on Thursday.
Please please sign him so he has not shot at playing for the Chiefs...

We already got his replacement. Castonzo from the Niners is supposed to be just as good.

Yesssss, because who needs an O-line when we can have special teamers. Money!

He regressed SOOOO much after his rookie year

HeavyLeggedWaistBender 03-23-2012 11:09 AM

Graham did have a pick in 3 consecutive games in place of D.J. Moore, just sayin.' Yeah it's a bummer that Harbaugh keeps jacking our ST aces :/

But #21 is open for Dre :P

I saw an awful mock draft the other day where we passed on him for Nick Perry. I'd be raging if Kirkpatrick was there for our pick and we passed.
