Agree on Moss. I'd actually draft Coby Fleener and go two TEs with Crabtree and Manningham as your wide guys.

Adam Schefter is reporting that Jeff Saturday is close to signing with the Packers. That's a nice pickup after losing Wells. Green Bay could still select Peter Konz if available.

The Mayans were right...the end really is upon us.

A Free Agent Signing???

It's been so long, I'm not sure how I feel about this...I had come to terms with a rookie 4th round pick starting at Center...

Whats the word on Braylon Edwards?

bearsfan_51 03-23-2012 11:46 AM

Green Bay should shut down their two street lights and give him a parade.

It looks like nobody is showing any interest in him.

That nobody really wants him. If he'd sign for the vet minimum, I'm sure he'd have his choice of teams.

The last time they did that, all of the horse-drawn buggies got into accidents.

My father is a minority owner. I'll call and suggest that.

That is a bigger loss for the Bears than most probably think. He offered nothing as a corner but he is among the best special teamers in the league. I can't fault him for going somewhere that might offer him more defensive playing time though. Hopefully somebody on the team or late in the draft can replace his ST ability.

Ehh I don't think Graham has much of a chance at seeing the field on defense unless he beats our Gorrer for a spot in the dime packages. Still a good singing though with how bad our coverage teams were.

Does he have actual stock or did he buy that bogus non-stock "stock?"

I can't be the only person who finds that whole shenanigan comical. They basically just solicited donations from people and rewarded them with a worthless piece of paper.

Drafting Fleener is a possibility, but they went 2 TEs all last season with Delanie Walker. Adding Fleener wouldn't change the philosophy, just the personnel.

You also get invited to the shareholders meeting, where you can vote on a bunch of crap that nobody really cares about. Also, you can buy a "Shareholders" faux-Super Bowl ring at a pretty decent price, if they win it all (which is actually pretty cool, and less stupid than it sounds).

I'm waiting for Ted Thompson to phone up my dad and ask if signing Jeff Saturday is a good idea.

So he has fake stock?

It's "real" stock in a technical sense; but nobody has "real" stock in the Packers, in the sense that people typically think of stock. It has to do with the way that they were incorporated back in the 1920s. The whole thing was set up so that shareholders wouldn't financially benefit from ownership, there could never be a majority owner, and the team could never relocate.

Should they ever liquidate, then after all expenses are covered, remaining assets would go to the Green Bay Packers Foundation, who would then ration it off to charities.

bearsfan_51 03-23-2012 12:18 PM

It's impossible for anyone outside of Wisconsin to understand why so many people spent money on meaningless stock. The NFL is pretty popular everywhere, but Wisconsin, particularly northern Wisconsin, is the Packers, beer, and hunting. It's an obsession like I've never seen.

Braylon is still rehabbing his injury and won't sign until he's healthy, just looked into it recently.

Mental or physical injury?

MBIII retires. That makes me sad. I really liked him when he wasn't so run down. He was a beast.

phlysac 03-23-2012 01:44 PM

Details just released on Mario Manningham's contract...

Quote:

2 year, $7.375 million contract that includes a $2 million signing bonus and another $2.45 million in salary guarantees, the source said.
Manningham's base salaries are $1.2 million in 2012 and $3.6 million in 2013. He is scheduled to count $4.887 on the 49ers' 2013 salary cap.
So the 49ers got Manningham for less than half what the Redskins paid for Garcon.

That is sad. He really wasn't that bad in Chicago last year minus a few bone-headed plays. As a Gopher alum, he was one of my favorites.
