Stock Watch: Week 1
A filler for discussion during the week as we all look forward to the games on Saturday and Sunday. Feel free to post your thoughts.

Stock Up:

1. RG3 - Threw 5 touchdowns against TCU. Solidified himself as QB prospect. Faced adversity and prevailed in one of Baylor's biggest games in recent history. Couldn't have asked for more from Griffin to start the season. You have our undivided attention, now run with it but we'd prefer if you think pass first.

2. Robert Woods, WR, USC - School record 17 receptions. Parlay that with 177 Yards and 3 TDs and you have yourself a nice little Saturday Mr. Woods. Was Minnesota's game plan to make Woods beat them? Because if so, they succeeded. Minnesota shut everyone else on USC down but the sophomore WR who is quickly becoming one of the top at his position.

3. Tyrann Mathieu, DB, LSU - I like measurables as much as the next guy when looking at prospects but here we have the exception. Anyone who watched the Oregon-LSU game had to have come away impressed with Mathieu and his presence around the ball and knack for making plays. His emergence shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone after an impressive freshman year that he topped of with a Cotton Bowl MVP award. Far and away the most talented player on the field against Oregon.

Notable Risers:Wisconsin's backfield; Ray Graham, RB, Pitt; Oklahoma Walk-On RB Dominique Whaley

Stock Down:

1. Notre Dame QBs - Brian Kelly came out and named Dayne Crist his opening day starter and said he expected it to stay that way for the whole season. Just a game into the new season, Kelly is back to evaluation with an unimpressive USF game tape to decide who will be under center against Michigan. Tommy Rees or Dayne Crist.

2. Auburn - The general consensus was that Auburn wouldn't be close to what they were last year, but are they really as bad as they played against Utah State? One 'expert' said they could be a the first team that wins the Nat'l Championship then have a losing season the year after. After watching the majority of the game on Saturday, I don't disagree. True freshmen QB Chuckie Keeten exposed Auburn's defense pretty bad to the tune of 213 passing yards and two rushing TDs. Their defensive line is young, four sophomores lined up at one point on Saturday, they will struggle big time against the more physical SEC teams. Those teams also won't give up the lead that Utah State had with 3 minutes to go that had some Auburn fans leaving early. Cause for concern for sure.

3. Mother Nature - Michigan had it's game called with Western Michigan as did West Virginia in a win against Marshall. Notre Dame also went through some lengthy delays in it's home opener loss to USF. Iowa and Tennesse had to deal with weather issues as well, and Eastern Michigan was forced to move their game from Saturday to Sunday. These kids and coaches need to open up with a full game, everyone needs their snaps in live action. Unfortunately, week one didn't go as smoothly as planned. Anyone know the forecast for the upcoming weekend?

Notable Sliders: Georgia's defense; Spurrier's QB antics; Missouri.

Homer Corner:

Stock Up honors have to go to Geno Smith. Even in a weather shortened game, Geno managed to show how he's progressed over the off season just as Mountaineer fans were hoping. Geno came out and said after the game that he didn't like the tempo and play calling at times, but he was satisfied with the win. Smith went 26/35 with 2 TDs and no INTs. If Holgerson wants to make his mark and prove that he brought a more explosive offense to Morgantown, he will have to get more aggressive. The weapons are there, and your QB is ready to let loose.

can't really argue with any of those choices. really looking forward to what griffin can do with baylor in big 12 play. for my homer choices, i have to go with chris rainey and dominique easley for stock up. rainey looked much more explosive running the ball and easley may have the fastest first step in college football. he was blowing everything up

Good stuff, TJ.

Guys that popped on my radar this weekend were:
Wright from Baylor. He was awesome against TCU.

Mingo from LSU. He was a beast. Sidenote: Barkevious is one of the worst made up names I've ever heard.
