1 or More CB's Drafted in the Top 10?

Right now I am being lazy to research, but I don't know when was the last time 2 CBs went in the Top 10 of the same draft. This year we have 2 potential candidates to go in Claiborne & Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick was the #1 CB heading into the season, before Claiborne took over with his outstanding play. Kirkpatrick has the ideal size to me which still warrants Top 10 consideration & Claiborne is the #1 guy right now so what other reason is there not to be 2 CBs in the Top 10 of the draft this year.

Have a crack at it guys........

We had 3 in 05:

Pacman at 6
Antrel Rolle at 8
Carlos Rogers at 9

2 in 04:

8 - DHall
10 - Dunta

I wouldn't bet on it this year.

Shame on me, because I actually knew that, but could not think off the top. I guess they don't make 'em like they used to.

I can see it happening this year especially if Claiborne is considered Top 5 material after combine workouts.

I think Kirkpatrick is the guy to worry about. He'll be fringe Top 10 IMO.

I agree, but you cant teach or coach size which makes him a Top 10 guy in my book with his skill set.

Kirkpatrick has a chance if he can have a great combine, and Claiborne is a lock top 10 pick IMO.

shylo3716 11-12-2011 12:57 PM

I really don't know why it has been so many gaps between the #1-2 CB prospects after that '05 class.

MI_Buckeye 11-12-2011 07:47 PM

Claiborne looks the part of a top 10 pick, but I think there is a better chance no corners go in the top ten than two. Need tends to dictate the top of the draft, and I think we're in for one of those super offense-heavy years at the top.

I dunno... The likely teams to be picking at the top may need a corner but with the other ways most of them could go, and the other worthy talents at the top... corner could be one of those positions that slip.

Wonder what you have to say now that both Claiborne and Kirkpatrick are being mocked in the top 10 with TB being Kirkpatrick's ceiling.

I'm still saying the same thing.

Really? I believe it's becoming more and more possible as things are shaping up. Teams are playing themselves out of position for prospects they are targeting, so that leaves guys like Kirkpatrick in positions where they are not needed to be drafted as you are stating.

Leon Sandcastle 12-22-2011 04:41 PM

Clairborne to the Rams and Kirkpatrick to the Buccaneers.

I think Tampa goes offense early this year. They've invested heavily in the defense over the past few seasons, and they'll want to give Freeman some help, be it along the offensive line or hell, even in the backfield (Clearly they're not sold on Blount and they should be picking somewhere around where Richardson could go). I mean, I guess Kirkpatrick could be an option but I'm with Shane here, I don't think we'll see 2 CBs in the Top 10 this year.

I'm kind of leaning toward 2 CB 's in the top 10. Face it, the top end talent level just isn't there this year except for the 2 QB's and Kalil, after them it could be a real scramble to pick the rest of the top 10.
I can see an early run on CB's and 3 in the top 15 seems reasonable and that always leaves the door open for 2 to be in the top 10.

AntoinCD 12-23-2011 03:26 PM

I think Kirkpatrick could sneak in at the end of the top ten. Tampa Bay and Carolina would be the two most likely landing spots IMO.

There just isn't enough top talent in this draft.

Luck
RG3
Claiborne
Kalil
Richardson

Then you're into guys like Blackmon, Coples, Reiff, Martin etc. Guys who IMO aren't top ten talents in any other draft. Kirkpatrick has the size and athleticism to make scouts drool and someone will think they can make him a star

FUNBUNCHER 12-23-2011 03:46 PM

If Kirkpatrick blazes his 40 the way Julio Jones did last season, he could jump into the top ten.

I agree with Iamcanadian, I don't think there's much exceptional talent in this draft after the top 10-15 picks so I don't see why Kirkpatrick couldn't make it that high.
