Virgina Tech Shootings Again...

During a traffic stop on campus, the suspect shot and killed a Virginia Tech police officer and then fled on foot through a nearby parking lot.

A second person was later found dead in that parking lot, the university said.

The university said the status of the shooter was unknown and the school remained on lockdown.

I hope this gets resolved quickly.

i hope i'm not being insensitive, but i'm relieved the shooter isn't asian. so much stupidity in HS after the first vatech shootings.

At this point, I was a prospective student, there is no way I would go. Too great a risk. Which sucks because it's such a good school.

The second person found dead was the shooter. Confirmed by ballistics. Apparently a Radford University student who had just previously stolen a car from a real estate agency lot at gunpoint.

Haven't heard any further details. Sounds pretty random. So sad for the slain campus cop's family - 5 kids left w/o a father. Tragic.

Would that really factor into your decision ultimately if that was your top school? Violence can happen anywhere at any time, statistically far more students make it through to see graduation then those that get shot.

When I was a freshman at Ball State one of our students was killed by a campus officer. He was drunk and knocked on some old person's house instead of his buddies. Campus police came and ended up shooting him like 6-10 times. This was slightly before the whole "you tazed me bro" wave of using stun guns instead of just killing people. So, long story short...every school has their ups and downs.

Turns out the campus cop was ambushed by the shooter when the cop stopped another individual for a traffic violation. Cop never even got out of his car. Apparently the shooter (a Radford University student) came out of nowhere & unloaded on the cop.

Tragic - 39 yrs. old, leaves behind a wife & 5 kids.

No motive has been released. The shooter had apparently stolen a car from a real estate agency earlier that day at gunpoint.
