Mark Barron Injured
Heard on Twitter this morning that he has a double sports hernia, out until July or August. Wonder how this affects his draft status.

I think it hurts his potential to go higher in the draft but I still believe his floor will be late first/early second.
If he had gone to the combine and run 4.4s and looked great he could have been a top 15 selection. That's just not going to happen now. |
Early 3rd rounder.
Do we have a link to anything?
I think that the Jets are jumping through hoops excited right now...We can still nab Mark Barron, but take him in the second round. Allowing us to grab a pass rusher in the first...
Nothing is confirmed yet. I'd say wait for confirmation before speculating.

Still the top safety in the draft by far.

Barron is still going in the first round, probably the Top 20 overall.
Yeah, didn't Heath Miller have a same type of injury? I mean he fell, but not out of the first. Have to think Barron is in the same boat.

I think this guarantees that no safety goes in round 1 this year, unless you count Dre Kirkpatrick. edit: Personally, I don't see what's special about Barron enough to spend a first rounder on him. |
I still think the Bengals will look at him at either 17 or 21 to upgrade over Crocker at SS.
He's still a top 40 pick. LOL at people thinking he'll fall to the 3rd.
If reports are true, it's not like he tore an ACL... A sports hernia is nothing major.
I don't really get the Mark Barron love. I think this gives Harrison Smith a chance to challenge him as a the #1 safety.
In my opinion Harrison Smith is already the top Safety. I was hoping to get him for the Falcons in round 3, I really like the way he plays the position.
Yeah, I don't think a sports hernia would take NEAR that long anyway. I have a feeling we still see him at the combine either way.
I really don't understand why Mark Barron is regarded as a 1st Rounder. Barron is a good athlete and solid all-around player, but he is far from special. I see his coverage abilities are average, his play recognition as average, and his ability against the run as below average (Barron really struggles to shed blocks downfield).
I know this safety class sucks, but don't let's not get desperate. Safety isn't that huge of a priority for NFL teams. There is no way he, nor any other safety, goes in the 1st Round. It's not a position for massive desperation. |

Haha there is no way he falls to the third. That's absolutely ridiculous. With the dramatic shift in the effectiveness and athleticism of TE's in the NFL, elite safeties are going to be at a premium in the coming years. Teams struggle putting a traditional LB or S on a Jimmy Graham or a Rob Gronkowski, so what's the solution? Draft a highly athletic, physically imposing player to man up on those TE's. Whether he is or he isn't that player, Barron will be drafted highly with the notion in mind that he can man up on the plurality of hyperathletic TE's which just had their way with the middle of the field this year in the NFL.
I'm not sure he goes Top 20, but I have a really hard time seeing him outside of the first round. |
