Rank the QB Prospects: 2011 and 2012 Draft
Always fun to do these, rank the QB's from this years and last years draft from best to worst. I'm going off how I viewed these prospects coming out of college, and not what we have all already seen from them...
1 Andrew Luck (2012) Automatic #1, we all know Luck will at least be a very good QB that can lead your team and organzition for the next 10+ years. 2 Cam Newton (2011) I was a huge Cam fan from the first game of the season while he was at Auburn, and was easily the top choice last year. 3 Robert Griffin III (2012) RG3 is right on par with Cam as a prospect, but I don't think he will have near the success in his rookie year. 4 Jake Locker (2011) Locker took a step back from the #1 overall pick hype, but I (still) have no doubts he should be a top 10 QB in the league in his prime. 5 Ryan Mallett (2011) If my team needed a QB to develop in the mid/late 1st I would have taken Mallett despite the character issues, you can't teach that type of arm strength. 6 Ryan Tannehill (2012) Tannehill has a bright future ahead of him if he lands on the right team, and isn't rushed onto the field like the next prospect on my list. 7 Blaine Gabbert (2011) Gabbert has the tools to be a NFL QB, but as I thought he struggled all year long for the Jags. 8 Andy Dalton (2011) I didn't see Dalton having the big impact he had last year, but thought he was a really solid 2nd round QB. 9 Christian Ponder (2011) I gave Ponder a 2nd round grade just like Dalton, but I still don't agree with where he was selected. 10 Brandon Weeden (2012) Weeden will likely get a late 2nd round grade from me, and as the draft comes closer I think he will rise once the Manning/Flynn sweapstakes is over. |
how could you put Gabbert ahead of Dalton?
Did you see how they did last year? and Weeden is 29 |

Don't have time to go too in-depth right now, so will try to get back to this at a later date. Ranking based on players pre-draft 2011 and pre-draft 2012 at similar points in time. This list is thus not only on physical upside, but a combination based on information that deals with off-field and vision.
1. Andrew Luck. 2. Robert Griffin III. 3. Blaine Gabbert 4. Cam Newton 5. Ryan Tannehill Decent Gap 6. Ryan Mallett 7. Jake Locker (Always said last year that, if you give me a good QB Coach and 2-3 years to develop Locker, I'd be fine taking my chances on him) 8. Colin Kaepernick (see ... Locker basically) 9. Kirk Cousins 10. Andy Dalton I guess you could toss in Weeden and Ponder in with Cousins and Dalton and order it any way. This shouldn't be viewed as a knock on Weeden, who I think can play in the NFL, but his age IS a factor. I never liked Ponder as much as many, but I did think he could be a starter someday (I think I compared him to a more athletic Schaub). I really like Cousins as a guy who I think might be able to pick up an offense quick and step in. I feel like Cousins offers a bit more upside than Dalton did, hence the tiny edge. I really liked Stanzi a lot last year as a solid mid-round QB option. |
1 - Luck
2 - RG3 3 - Newton 4 - Tannehill 5 - Mallett 6 - Kaepernick 7 - Gabbert 8 - Weeden 9 - Oseweiler 10 - Stanzi 11 - B.J. Coleman I would not have drafted Locker, Ponder, or Dalton. |
Luck
Griffin Locker Newton Ponder Mallett Dalton Tannehill Weeden Kaepernick Gabbert |
Based on the ten in the initial post:
1. Andrew Luck, Stanford* 2. Robert Griffin III, Baylor* 3. Jake Locker, Washington 4. Cam Newton, Auburn* 5. Ryan Tannehill, Texas A&M 6. Blaine Gabbert, Missouri* 7. Christian Ponder, Florida St. 8. Ryan Mallett, Arkansas* 9. Andy Dalton, Texas Christian 10. Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma St. I was a little bit low on Newton because of the offense he came from and his character so I had Locker as the top QB that year. I was a little bit nervous about Ryan Mallett's rumored drug habits but without those he would probably go #3 ahead of even Locker. I had the top eight guys substantially ahead of Dalton/Weeden. |
1) Luck
2) Griffin 3) Locker 4) Gabbert (oops) 5) Mallett 6) Newton 7) Kaepernick 8) Ponder 9) Tannehill 10) Dalton |
Is it bad I dont wanna post because I thought (and still do) Mallet will be a Top 10 QB in the league in the future and would be Top 4 on the list? He reminds me of Rhillip Rivers mindset/Drew Bledsoes abilities.

For coming out of college, over the last two years, on a basis of fantasy-land, ideal team situations, the blend between my excitement and my confidence about prospects would probably have them ranked, when they were coming out -
1. Newton 2. Luck 3. Tannehill 4. Griffin III 5. Locker 6. Weeden 7. Ponder 8. Dalton 9. Mallett Irrelevant: Gabbert. Have thought Gabbert was terrible from the first I saw of him. |

What? This is my list. Not where I think they would be drafted.
And based on early indications, I was dead wrong about Dalton, who I thought didn't have the arm strength to be a good pro QB. |
