Players the Coaching Staff May Have Their Eyes On
Because of the unique (to us) position of having a head coach and defensive consultant fresh from the college ranks, it is not uncommon for former college coaches to try to bring in their former pupils to their new teams. Here are some guys we may be seeing in Pewter and Red solely based on who they played for LAST SEASON:
Rutgers: WR Mohamad Sanu-solid slot guy-former RB would likely struggle outside fo the slot in the NFL. COULD be a target for Bucs if he is still around in round 3. FB Joe Martinek-athletic undersized FB in the Brian Leonard mold. Just under 230 lbs, runs 4.50, had a 1000 yard season three seasons ago for Scarlet Knights, could be had in round 7 or after draft. DE justin Francis-5th year senior with a good motor, marginal athletic ability, good production in last season. UDFA camp body would be most likely. OG Desmond Wynn-2nd team Big East performer has very good athletic ability, would be drafted in 6th or 7th round. DE/LB Manny Abreau-Small DE or big LB... projects as an UDFA FS/CB David Rowe-not very big or fast, but was a 3 year starter at Rutgers and is like having a coach on the field. Seems very likely to end up with Bucs AFTER the draft. UNC: DE Quinton Coples-perhaps most talented DE in draft. With Bucs having big investments all of the DL, Coples is not likely, but he did have predraft visit with Bucs, and he can also play DT... still not likely as he is a top 15 pick. LB Zack Brown-one of most athletic players in draft, played all 3 spots for UNC and would be available in round 2. CB Charles Brown-undersized CB with subpar straightline speed but good athleticism. Sat out 2010 during UNC scandal. Would be avaiable for special teams round 7 or later. FB Ryan Houston-scored 21 TDs in his career as a Brian Leonard-style FB in college. Available in round 7 or later. WR Dwight Jones-huge WR 6'3 230 + lbs that runs pretty well 4.55, was productive at UNC and should be drafted in the 4-6 range. DE Donte Paige-Moss-ultra talented DE with major playing time, injury, attitude issues. Benched his final (junior) season at UNC. Wasn't productive, was also tweeting up an angry storm. tore ACL late in season but still declared. Available rounds 6-7 or later. VERY TALENTED. Produced as true sophomore. DT Tydreke Powell-big DT is strictly a 2-gap run stuffer. Likely 5-6 round pick. S Mike Merletti-was UNC defensive captain and but coming off knee injuries in October. Available as UDDA. C Came Holland-big OC that was on Rimington award watch list. Likely UDFA. |
Two years ago Cincinatti crushed Rutgers and put up 69 points on Scarlet Knights. RB Isaiah Pead put up 200+ yards nearly 250 rushing and receiving and scored 5 TDs. I'm thinking Schiano remembers him well.

I have read no info where the Bucs have contacted nor borugh in Zach Brown.
It was interesting to see they had Coples in for a visit though. Maybe getting the scoop on a potential future Panther, if he's there selection at 9. |

I never said we brought Brown in for a visit. I don't understand why the team would waste any of their visits with players the coaches already know extremely well. |
