Brian Dawkins retires

One of my favorite NFL players. Loved him as an Eagle.

bigbluedefense 04-23-2012 10:23 AM

The only Eagle I ever liked. Weapon X had my respect.

Rosebud 04-23-2012 10:32 AM

Him leaving for Denver was probably the happiest I've ever felt about a rival team's player leaving the division.

eaglesalltheway 04-23-2012 10:33 AM

Hopefully the Eagles show some class and get this guy back in for a one day contract so he can *officially* retire an Eagle...

Kinda sucks, because I already felt like I said my goodbye when he left two years ago. He is the only Eagles during my lifetime that I would homerishly vote into the HOF whether you think he deserved it or not. (Even if I wasn't being a homer, I'd say he should get in... in time)

WCH 04-23-2012 10:34 AM

I'm kind of shocked. I shouldn't be surprised because he's old enough to be SuperPacker's daddy; but he's one of those guys that I just expected to play forever.

Wootylicous 04-23-2012 10:42 AM

Probably my favorite player with his intensity. Loved his game and had huge respect for him

Splat 04-23-2012 10:59 AM

You just had to love B-Dawk.

broncosfan 04-23-2012 11:02 AM

I'm glad he's retiring now before making too much harm to his body. Hopefully that neck injury doesn't have a long term effect on him.

It's sad that he retired without a ring, one of those guys that doesn't matter if they're on your team or not you want them to win a championship.

According to CSNPhilly.com Eagles beat writer Reuben Frank, Dawkins has told the Eagles he’ll retire with the team at a game to be announced this year. Frank adds that Dawkins may be in town this week to talk about it.

Dawkins would get my support for the HOF. He’ll wait a while but should get in eventually as I believe the safety position will finally start to get the recognition it deserves in Canton. I’d rank him next in line after Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu and ahead of John Lynch and Darren Sharper. I think there’s room for 3 safeties from the same era, but there will be perhaps be a cutoff point after that,

Dawkins will be on the ballot in 2017 where he will almost certainly find himself in competition with Lynch, Steve Atwater and LeRoy Butler. Eventually the latter two will likely fall off the modern era list into the Seniors pool in the middle of the next decade. Reed is 34 and perhaps has no more than 2 seasons left. He’s pretty much a slam dunk choice imo around 2020. Polamalu just turned 31 so if we give him 5 more seasons he should be on the ballot by approx 2022/23 and should get elected soon after. By 2025 I think we might regard Dawkins as the best remaining safety, and maybe even defensive back (Polamalu, Reed, C.Woodson elected and Revis not yet eligible), on the modern era list.

Good riddance to a dirty dirty player.

scottyboy 04-23-2012 11:49 AM

i loved Ike Hilliard too much to like Dawkins

brat316 04-23-2012 11:59 AM

Finally hanging it up, to bad he was forced out rather than leaving on his own terms.

eaglesalltheway 04-23-2012 12:22 PM

I will make an effort to be at Dawk's game back. It has no other option but to be special..

tjsunstein 04-23-2012 12:27 PM

Didn't like him as a Packers fan but god damn, did I respect him.

Ngatachance92 04-23-2012 12:35 PM

Watching all of your favorite players retire that you watched growing up really has a way of making you feel old.

Yeah, that and when I was at work last week I hear All Star by Smash Mouth on a classic radio station. That really made me feel old.

As long as you didn't start dancing to it the transformation is not yet complete.

Friends and That 70s Show are on Nick at Night. Isn't Nick at Night supposed to be for those old people?

Supposedly his game where he will be honored is against the Giants... Probably buying tickets...

If you existed and were over the age of 3 when it came out the words have been programmed into you, can't fault you for that.

September 30th on National TV.

Yup, Dawkins was a beast. Got to see him quite a bit in the NFC East; he was a true football player and one of the best of his time. HOFer.

OzTitan 04-23-2012 06:47 PM

He suplexed his way into my heart as an NFL fan when he did that suplex that time (or was it multiple? probably multiple).
