Sony is set to announce the premier of it's next gen console, the PS4 or "Orbis" on Wednesday in NYC.

Discuss rumors, thoughts on design, software, hardware, you name it.

I am excited!!

Rumors are that the new PS4 will be released in November 2013 and will feature a touchscreen dualshock controller. PS4 is rumored to be heavily involved with social media.

Damn its gonna be a long wait until November ugh. I can't wait for the ps4. I'm not too excited about the touch screen on the dual shock though. Why not just use the vita as an attachment for that instead. oh well.

Does any one have news on if the ps4 will play ps3 games ?

It's not really a screen, as I don't believe it will display anything. It is a touchpad.

If they use it for game integration it could be great. Like in a Skyrim-type game, if you want to change from a heavy armor set to a mage or light armor set, or from a weapon set to a spell set, you could map touch button to that choice instead of menu navigation. The possibilities there are huge. If they use it as a replacement for tactile buttons it'll be incredibly bad.

That said I have no intention of buying a PS4 until my PS3 dies or until they drop the price a couple times.

edit: well, I will actually probably pre-order a couple and resell for a crapload when the sell out early.

I have only had me PS3 for a little over a year so I'm in no rush for PS4. I plan on either upgrading my PS3's HD or just buying the 500 GB model and rolling with it for awhile.

There is still a ton of PS3 games I have yet to play and they will be cheaper when PS4 comes out.

from what i have read, you will be able to play ps3 games on the ps4.

ive also read that the console should be much cheaper compared to when the ps3 first came out.

Now I need some info on the new XBOX console. Mine just redring'd and I don't want to buy a new one if their new system is coming out soonish.

Vidae it most likely won't come out until next Oct or Nov along with the ps4. I'm only assuming though. So your gonna have to watch tonight or check back tomorrow.

However, it is going to be a long dreaded summer until Nov for the ps4. I told my self I would wait for a while for the new consoles to buy one. But if it looks sweet I may jump on the ps4 at launch. Also depends on money as well. or where I'm posted etc etc.

I remember waiting in line for a PS3 and not getting one. Think I'll wait to see what Xbox does before I cop another system.

I'm waiting too. No need to immediately upgrade, and by the time I decide to get one they should have whatever bugs worked out and the price will hopefully be a little lower.

I'm also thinking about switching over to the new XBox.. Depends on how each system looks, but I don't care about social media on a gaming/entertainment system and I can see a touchpad being pretty frustrating. If the XBox looks to be more geared towards gaming, I'll probably switch over. We'll see though..

I still rock a ps2...the fat one too haha

PS4 will not be backwards compatible with PS3 games. Sony said this a while ago.

That is a pretty stupid decision imo.

I read something about being to stream games with something "cloud-like" to have the backwards compatible function.

sony is a broke company. gotta make that $$$

I heard it would be backwards compatible, but you never know. Also price range rumors were 300 Euros, which would be $400. That's not too bad considering they were like $700 when the PS3 came out.

I got my PS3 on launch weekend and didn't have to wait in no line. Just remember it was quite expensive. Can't believe a new one might already be here soon. PS3 already does everything basically. I give a **** about social media crap.. it shouldn't be on a PS3 anyways.

Thus far, meh.

Too much focus on being trendy with social media. Just show me some hardware and some games that we actually would want to play.

Seriously. These specs and concepts were already leaked like a week ago, let's get on with some god damn games. Unless Sony is stupid enough to once again release a console on hardware and name alone without any must buy release game to ship along with it. That worked out so well last time huh?

Great, now we get to see when our friends are playing video games through twitter/facebook. Pretty soon people will just start letting us know when they are wacking off and taking a **** and I think we got everything.
