Forum Mock: UDFA
For UDFA, every team can post a list of 3 names that they want to pursue in UDFA. Just like real life, I will lean heavily towards first come, first served basis. If I have a player that has multiple offers then I will select the best destination based off best perceived playing opportunity/future with team.
Since there is no Preseason phase of this mock, the names that you submit here must be names of players who will be on your Final 53 man roster. If your 53 man roster is set then don't bother with UDFA.
UDFA will begin at Noon EST. That is when I will open this thread and you may begin declaring your offers here in this thread. So have your trigger fingers ready!
The reason why it is starting on Saturday is because I will begin June 1st Cuts as soon as the Draft ends which may happen today or tomorrow. I'm allowing you guys to have time to create roster space before UDFA.
June 1st Cuts will occur simultaneosly with UDFA. But there will be a seperate June 1st Cuts thread.
UDFA will end on Sunday at Noon EST.
Reminder: This is where you will claim your UDFAs, but they are not yours until the Sunday Deadline is over and then I will make the final decision on each player. Decision will weigh heavily on first come, first serve basis however.
1. Abry Jones, DT, Georgia
Would fill the Mike Devito role from last year immediately, and would be due for 400-600 snaps working as the early-down run stopping 5 or 3-tech. If Coples regresses or if one of the front 3 get injured, would be in for a full-time starting role as well. Gets to play under one of the finest defensive minds and great developers of d-line talent in Rex Ryan to take his game to the next level.
2. Matt Summers-Gavin, OG, California
In 2013 he will strictly play as the primary backup interior lineman to Colon and Peterman, but has a great opportunity for snaps as both are in their 30s and can breakdown or get injured throughout the season. Both Colon and Peterman are on 1 year deals so the starting job in 2014 is his if he looks good in practice.
3. Philip Lutzenkirchen, TE, Auburn
Zach Ertz is going to be the #1 TE but his blocking is suspect and the Jets don't have any good blocking TEs on the roster, so Lutzenkirchen will be in for a lot of snaps if he proves he is a better blocker than Cumberland, Rueland, and Smith, which should not be difficult. Will vault to 2nd on the depth chart and he could line up as a FB as Lex Hilliard is not a true lead-blocking FB as well.
