Who is the greatest team in college football history?

1999 FSU Seminoles.

First wire-to-wire- Nat'l Champ.

......and i'm just a little biased.

Shreckart 04-23-2013 10:16 AM

Obviously the OU team of 1953-1957, 47 game win streak is impressive no matter when you did it. Coach Wilkinson is still a legend in Norman.

wicket 04-23-2013 11:38 AM

1995 huskers

BuckeyeDan17 04-23-2013 11:50 AM

2001 Hurricanes.

This team is up there with 95 Nebraska and 01 Miami but seldom gets that recognition. Had it not been for the blizzard in South Bend, the 93 team would likely be right there with Nebraska and Miami as well.

SickwithIt1010 04-23-2013 01:00 PM

Always said I wanna see 01 Miami go up against 04 SC.

JRTPlaya21 04-23-2013 01:17 PM

99 FSU lol? I'd take 2011 Alabama over that squad. Beating Clemson by 3 and being down to VT in the National Championship doesn't warrant GOAT talk.

BigJohn98 04-23-2013 01:22 PM

95 Nebraska
01 Miami

Everyone else.

2001 Miami struggled with Boston College and only beat Virginia Tech by 2. Should we not include them in the GOAT discussion as well?

You can exclude them from the GOAT talk if you really want to but everybody will have a good laugh at that. Nobody would lose sleep over 99 FSU not being in the discussion.

I was just going by your logic.

I think 99 FSU is a top 10-15 team of all time, personally. Great team, but not one of the GOAT.

Those are the teams that popped into my head.

So much talent and NFL pros on those teams.

CashmoneyDrew 04-23-2013 04:07 PM

98 Vols. No homer or anything.

mqtirishfan 04-23-2013 04:40 PM

Closing in on multiple pages for a spambot thread. Solid.

Nawwww but if NCAA brought back legendary teams we could go at it there lol.

In terms of talent and future NFL players it has to be 2001 Miami. Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis, Bryant McKinnie, Phillip Buchannon, Jonathan Vilma, D.J. Williams, Jeremy Shockey all started. Willis McGahee started at FB in the Rose Bowl game, because Portis was the RB. Andre Johnson and Frank Gore were the guys lined to return for the opening kickoff, that's just ridiculous to me. Chris Myers was a key backup on the offensive line. Vince Wilfork and Sean Taylor were key backups on defense. Also on the team was Antrelle Rolle, Kellen Winslow, Vernon Carey and Najeh Davenport.

Trogdor 04-25-2013 08:00 AM

For sheer dominance how is it not the 1995 Cornhuskers? They didn't just beat every team they dominated every single game.

Beat the #8 KSU team 49-25
Beat the #7 CU team 44-21
Beat the #10 KU team 41-3

Won the National Championship Game over Florida: 62-24

Lol how do you forget Ed Reed?????

Jcn92 04-25-2013 09:38 AM

My bad, I forgot to put him. I was going back and forth between the starters and bench players and forgot to put him in.

P-L 04-25-2013 11:03 AM

Everyone wants to say '01 Hurricanes because of all the NFL talent they had, but the '95 Huskers were just absurd. They played three top ten teams an won by an average of 28 points. Their closest game was a 23-point win. They never scored less than 35 points in a game. Scored 40+ in ten games, 50+ in six games, 60+ in four games, and 70+ in two games. They beat a very good Florida team, who probably could've won the National Championship most other years, 62-24.

Shreckart 04-25-2013 04:27 PM

University of Oklahoma 2000-2001 team was very very good. I'm not saying the best, but I'd put them in top 7. Very underrated team that year, I personally think they were an excellent team, may be biased too much though.

5 week stretch.

#11 Texas - 63-14
@ #2 Kansas State - 41-31 (Game wasn't that close.)
#1 Nebraska - 31-14 (Nebraska scored first two drives, didn't score again with Eric Crouch.)
@ Baylor - 56-7 (Worthless game.)
@ #23 Texas A&M - 35-31 (Very solid A&M team that year.)

Then National Title
#2 FSU - 13-2 (Heisman trophy Chris Weinke shut down.)
