Gunnin' for #1 QB Spot in Class of 2014

I'm going to list potential 2014 QB prospects who will fight for the #1 spot come next year.

Order varies for the moment. I will officially update this after the underclassmen deadline.

1. Teddy Bridgewater
2. A.J. McCarron
3. Tajh Boyd
4. Aaron Murray
5. Jeff Driskel

Honorable mention
  • Johnny Manziel Texas A&M
  • Derek Carr Fresno State
  • David Fales San Jose State
  • Logan Thomas Virginia Tech
  • Braxton Miller Ohio State
  • Stephen Morris Miami (FL)

Johnny Manziel?????? Taylor Martienz is awful he should not even be in the Honorable Mention. You also forgot David Fales.

Caulibflower 04-29-2013 02:38 PM

I'm probably going to be talking about Tajh Boyd a lot for the next year. :-)

BallerT1215 04-29-2013 02:38 PM

I feel like Carr, Thomas, and Miller are way way way far away from being in the discussion. All 3 are not NFL QB's imo AT THE MOMENT.

It's Bridgewater and everybody else right now.

I do think Morris is the darkhouse of the crop.

Hurricanes25 04-29-2013 02:38 PM

Might as well add Johnny Manziel, Brett Hundley, Marcus Mariota, and Kevin Hogan to the list of names.

You mean Boyd and then everybody else....

He has a long way to go, too. If he makes the same strides that he did last year, then definitely.

jrdrylie 04-29-2013 02:42 PM

I think Boyd is currently the top prospect. He's basically EJ Manuel but more consistent.

He isn't that consistent. He improved a lot last season, but he is far away from the best prospect.

And Bridgewater doesn't? They all have to make strides and show maturation, don't get me wrong. But there's nothing Bridgewater does better, right now than Boyd. At least not from my persepctive anyway. He's bigger and that's about it.

Definitely. Everyone can improve, no doubt. That being said, I think as a pure passing QB, Bridgewater is head and shoulders above everyone right now. Boyd is very inconsistent with his deep passes, and looking for the big play. It was a good thing he decided to come back for another year imo. Like I said, if he makes the same strides as he did last season from the year before, then I'm with you on Boyd.

Stephen Morris has a real shot to be something big. He has the size, arm, and toughness that will appeal to the NFL scouts. I actually like Morris more than Boyd at the moment.

Edit: That's from a FSU fan's perspective, and facing them last few years.

I see a bigger Russell Wilson.

Yeah, absolutely. Morris made huge strides last year (especially in decision making) but he definitely has more growing to do. At times, he's just a little bit off with his accuracy. He's definitely a sleeper going into the 2013 season.

Except he is 5" shorter and plays in an offense that does nothing to prepare him for the NFL.

Stephen Morris' development is going to be really, really hindered by not having a QB Coach worth a damn to help him out.

Don't you be coming in here ending threads like that!

Brett Hundley is straight disrespected.

scottyboy 04-29-2013 03:27 PM

Teddy Bridgewater is by far the best guy in the class. Head and shoulders above. And I like a lot of these guys, actually.

Keep in mind, Teddy RUINED my senior year and crushed all of my hopes and dreams. Remember that.

Hurricanes25 04-29-2013 03:36 PM

I haven't watched all of these QB's yet but from what I've seen, Bridgewater is my #1 with Boyd being a distant 2nd.

While we're talking about QB's, a small school sleeper to watch- Jeff Mathews, Cornell.

I'll go with Marcus Mariota and will admit it's early in the process. Mariota is basically Sam Bradford coming out, with 4.5 speed.

VAfy-ya 04-29-2013 03:57 PM

Not suprised that no one's talking about Bryn Renner.....they should though. Kid's got a lot of talent.

tjsunstein 04-29-2013 04:20 PM

I swear to baby jesus if I have to go another preseason reading about Logan Thomas talk. That should have ended quickly last year. He's not good. Actually awful. He's a homless man's Cam Newton. I really don't think he's anything more than a 5th based solely on measurables and the dreaded 'flashes of potential'.

Caulibflower 04-29-2013 04:28 PM

Yeah, Logan Thomas is fairly terrible.
