Will the Oakland Raiders tank the Season for Jadeveon Clowney?

Yes or no?

Cigaro 04-30-2013 02:39 PM

No. Hopefully this isn't a serious question. They could end up doing badly enough to be able to take Clowney, but no pro franchise will waste an entire season on purpose to get a player.

No NFL team ever tanks for an individual player. Too many jobs are in jeopardy when a team finishes with the #1 overall pick.

TACKLE 04-30-2013 03:03 PM

Clown question bro

jrdrylie 04-30-2013 03:17 PM

Yes, let's tank the season so our replacements can take the best player in the draft while we are unemployed.

WCH 04-30-2013 03:37 PM

Most coaches and GMs don't have enough job security to tank a season. If a team were going to tank the season in order to get the #1 draft pick, then it would have to be a team that had a very involved owner who hired a yes-man coach.

Cowboys.

Nastradamus 04-30-2013 03:39 PM

It'd be for Bridgewater anyways most likely. Nothing against Clowney.

Prowler 04-30-2013 05:37 PM

They are going to get whipped by the rest of that division this year... if it makes them feel better that they are doing it for Clowney, then more power to them.

This. This topic comes up every year and every year people who vote yes have no clue how an NFL organization works.

If you pick #1, you are probably a new regime.

The regimes that win the #1 pick are fired.

The only people that remain when a team picks #1 are owners and family of owners.

Cowboys.

The owner won't fire the Cowboy's GM or coach. [because he can't fire himself]

Our defense will be much improved after the recent additions and the offensive scheme is going back to what worked during the Cable/Jackson era. Not saying we are going to be a .500 team but I think we could win 5-6 games. Jacksonville and the Jets are the teams I see being pretty bad.

vidae 04-30-2013 08:05 PM

The Raiders don't have to tank to get the #1 overall pick. Neither did the Chiefs.

Donno 05-01-2013 12:02 AM

I don't think we'd tank the season but this would be my reaction if we were number 1 overall.

All three, raiders jets and jags are are the absolute bottom tier of the league. Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me if an NFC team like the panthers or cardinals picked #1 simply because their schedule will be much tougher. It'll be tough for any of those 3 teams to not pull out 4+ wins in the AFC.

If you are going to tank it, do it for a QB.

I can't say I would be shocked if the Raiders win 6 games this year.

However, based on history--especially with McFadden's health--I am preparing for a top 3 selection next year with a high chance of #1 overall. Oh and by the way it's possible the Raiders don't have a single QB on the roster better than Leinart, Boller or Charlie Frye.

I don't know. The Raiders got rid of a LOT of players this offseason. They weren't All-Pros, but when you get rid of a bunch of very serviceable but WAY overpriced starters and replace them with a haul of 6th rounders, it would be very easy to expect less than 4 wins. Even in the AFC. Seymour, Kelly and Huff have been barely sub-Pro Bowl or Pro Bowl players the past couple years. Say what you want about Palmer, but he could easily be miles better than any QB the Raiders have on staff right now.

Kansas City simply switching out Cassel/Quinn for Smith and Oakland switching Palmer for Flynn/Pryor/Wilson could easily turn both those games around.

I wouldn't be surprised at all with a 2-win season again.

You need to have a little more faith in my boy Wilson. I cant wait til he trolls Black Bolt. Please football gods, let that happen

Azhais 05-01-2013 01:27 AM

Not intentionally. Doesn't mean it won't turn out that way.

Kyle472 05-01-2013 03:32 AM

They won't have to they are already the worst team in the NFL.

Um, why the Raiders? That last time I checked, we one more games than the Jags and the overrated Chiefs. As a matter of fact, we beat the Chiefs 5 of the last 6. Secondly, where is the improvement on the part of the Jags? They didn't need a OT. Also, Blackmon, their 2012 first round investment, will miss 4 games due to suspension.

jrdrylie 05-01-2013 07:58 AM

If any team should tank for the first pick, it's the Jags. They have a new owner with a handpicked GM and head coach so they have the job security. Also, they don't have to do much to tank. Just keep playing Gabbert. He'll do the rest.

"Trolls?" That's a verb? Speak English, Raiders fan and stop embarassing the nation. First of all, it's not about any one player, it's about the Raiders. You remind me of all those Carson Palmer ball washers who acted like he was some sort of sacred cow that could do no wrong. The perrenial loser couldn't even match Jarmarcus Russell's win total. And here you go mouthing off about the next great hope. Tyler Wilson is a 4th round rookie that isn't going to do **** but hold a clipboard this year. What he does in the future remains to be seen. This year he will get a good work out carrying Flynn and Pryors bags around with his baby hands.
