2014 Team Needs

What are your teams (projected) 2014 team needs? Predict players performance this year, and look at players that will be FA's in 1-2 years. For the 49ers, i think its

1. CB
2. SS
3. C
4. WR
5. #2 QB
6. K

Summary: Most of these are because of upcoming FA's. 4 CB's, our starting SS and C, 3 WR's (including Boldin, NOT Crabtree though), our current backup QB (Colt McCoy) and our K are all FA's after this season. I don't mean to be a homer but i think for the most part we'll get a good performance from most if not all our positional groups. For the most part our FA's are replaceable. Justin Smith is our most important FA though, by far. I'm not sure if we retain him....Tank Carradine was drafted to fill that hole and i can't see him sitting on the bench too long.

There may be some other minor depth concerns to fill out the roster, and maybe a player disappoints at another position so a new need pops up. But i think this pretty accurate right now.

Robcards 05-03-2013 06:06 AM

Sadly the jets needs are mostly the same as they were in this years draft:
OLB, TE, FS

We didn't address any of them in this draft so with 12 picks next year I really hope they take some of these guys.

Leonsandcastle 05-03-2013 06:12 AM

If there's a top LT where we pick in the first that is the top priority. After that we'll need a center with Raiola (being bad/retiring hopefully), a TE Scheffler and Jumbotron both being free agents, possibly a backup QB Hill is a FA, Wil LB , right DE, and depth at most positions. Our 2014 cap situation is horrid 130 million with current contracts, so I doubt we'll be doing much in free agency.

Cigaro 05-03-2013 06:37 AM

Still WR, OL, DB.

jrdrylie 05-03-2013 09:41 AM

Bears:

QB: Jay Cutler is in the last year of his deal. It's my hope that they will resign him but if he has a mediocre deal, I wouldn't be surprised if Trestman brings in his own guy.

Receiver: The Bears definitely need a slot receiver. There is nobody on the team who can be a good deep threat. Depending on how Jeffrey progresses, we might need a few.

Center: Roberto Garza is old and not very good.

DT: Henry Melton will be a free agent. We better resign him but it won't be cheap.

DE: Corey Wootton is a free agent, Peppers is a potential cap casualty, and McClellin is an unknown. I wouldn't be surprised if this is our first round pick.

CB: Tillman, Jennings, Hayden, McManis, and Bowman. That's our top five corners. Hopefully we can resign a few of them, but if nothing else, depth will be needed.

Also look for running back to be a potential need. Depending on our cap situation, Forte could be cut.

falloutboy14 05-03-2013 10:25 AM

Colts Offense:

WR: Reggie Wayne will be 35 next off-season and DHB is on a 1-year deal. Aside from those 2, we're down to TY Hilton & Lavon Brazil. TY may only be a slot WR, so we need a #1 to replace Reggie and perhaps a #2 if TY cannot fill that role.

G/C: This is a giant question mark. 2 draft picks this past draft at G & C, as well as another G in FA should have it solidified, and a wait and see status.

RB: Donald Brown on his last year. Delone Carter hasn't been used much and has been fumble prone. Vick Ballard had a good rookie year and promising, Kerwynn Williams looks like a good receiving option. Depending on what happens with Brown & Carter another RB could be used.

Colts Defense:

NT: Josh Chapman spent last year on IR due to his knee. McKinney & Franklin are old. Our depth behind him isn't that great. Montori Hughes was just drafted. Not yet sure if he'll be at NT or DE.

DE: Redding is old, RJF should be here for years and be a good player. Everyone else appears to be a depth player, but we've just switched, so a player could step up. I'm not quite sure where to place Montori Hughes in this.

OLB: Need a replacement for Mathis (32) at some point. Werner & Walden are fine on the other side.

CB: Vontae Davis's contract is up next year, but will likely be resigned. Depth behind him is fine.

S: Antoine Bethea's contract is up. There's cap room to keep him, but wondering if he can be upgraded.

Buffalo Bills

1. Cornerback

Stephon Gilmore is a stud but after that the Bills don't have a lot. McKelvin is a decent player & Ron Brooks has potential but another top end starter is needed.

2. Tight End

Scott Chandler has been our best TE since Jay Riemersma but he suffered a late ACL injury last season. Behind him the Bills have Lee Smith, Chris Gragg and Dorin Dickerson. Exactly.

3. Guard

Bills lost Andy Levitre in the offseason and still haven't replaced him.

4. Linebacker

A little murky considering the Pettine switch, still think we could use another LB or two.

Hoping we end up with either Mosley, Lyeria or Purifoy next year.

prock 05-03-2013 12:32 PM

Vikings:

QB - Unless Ponder is the man. I hope this isn't a need.

RB - We could definitely use a non-Toby second back.

OG - Fusco sucks.

DE - Might be our biggest need.

LB - We will see how Hodges plays at WLB and how Erin Henderson transitions to the MIKE.

CB - Can always use more corners in our division. Josh Robinson needs to make some strides this year.

S - Besides Harrison, we have special teamers at safety.

HC - I hate Leslie.

keylime_5 05-03-2013 12:42 PM

Browns needs post-draft:

QUARTERBACK - Until old man Weeden is good, the new regime is gonna want a young stud franchise passer as their #1 priority.

CORNERBACK - Rookie third rounder Leon McFadden might be the favorite to beat out Chris Owens and Buster Skrine across from Joe Haden. Yeah, we have no one at #2 corner.

FREE SAFETY- 2012 undrafted rookie Tashun Gipson looked good late last year, and the previous regime believed he has starting potential in the future. I'm excited to see what he's got, but the Browns have no proven players at safety this year other than TJ Ward.

TIGHT END - Jordan Cameron has been deemed the starting tight end and he showed flashes last year playing in a rotation with Ben Watson and Alex Smith. This year he is the man and he has to have a big year or else we're in trouble at TE. Backups Kellen Davis and Gary Barnidge are only here to block.

GUARD- Jason Pinkston played pretty well before he had a scare with a blood clot in his lungs. He's back 100% cleared now, and we also have average Shawn Lauvao at RG. John Greco is a good 3rd guard. Could use an upgrade at G especially with Lauvao due for free agency in 2014.

Halsey 05-03-2013 01:06 PM

Falcons

D-line

The Falcons don't have a young D-lineman who's given a lot of reason to think he can be a long term quality starter. They could stand to add a premium young talent at DE and /or DT

Pass Catchers

Gonzalez will be gone. Roddy White is getting close to a decade in the league. Will the Falcons want to pay both White and Jones a big cap number, if White is looking for another big contract?

Linebacker

Weatherspoon seems to be the only safe bet to be a quality long term starter.

RB

How much does Steven Jackson have left? No other RBs on the roster have shown signs they can be a long term starter.

CJSchneider 05-03-2013 01:59 PM

Saints

OL - Even after drafting Terron Armstead in the 2nd this year, we still don't know if Charles Brown is really up to performing the task and Zack Streif is 30.

DE- The Fresh Prince will be leaving the Big Easy after this season.

OLB- Our new 3-4 needs a fresh face to get after the QB.

grushcow 05-03-2013 02:04 PM

For the Dolphins looking ahead I would say:

OT: We'll likely bring a stop gap in to play right tackle, but Martin's play is still going to be in question regardless, one tackle spot at least will need to be addressed.

OG: Incognito, Jerry and Louis have expiring contracts and will need to be replaced.

DT: Starks and Soliai have expiring contracts. There is a viable replacement in house with Odrick, but more of a nose tackle will be needed if Soliai walks.

CB: Depending on how the rookie DB's perform this year the Dolphins will still have to fill the void left by Grimes if they can't extend him.

FS: I like Clemons, but he's on a one year deal and isn't a difference maker.

Honestly they only have one glaring hole as we start the season at OT, but with the impending FA taken into account it paints a picture of what our upcoming needs will be.

What he said. I'm pretty worried about our CB depth.

id like to add:

cornerback: greer is great but is up there in age which would basically leave us with keenan lewis going forward.

ilb: Vilma isnt a good 34 ilb and we need someone behind lofton and hawthorne.

id also want another safety because i fully expect vaccaro to be a clear bust within the year but thats more of a projection. #1 clearly has to be OLB though as this was our biggest in this draft and our sole investment was a sixth round flyer and signing chase thomas as a udfa

So glad we let him walk for nothing like the rest of our good players.

/sarcasm.

Redskins:

MLB - You have to assume that London Fletcher is going to retire next year sadly. Perry Riley (2014 FA) has played well next to Fletcher but the depth is not great beyond that. Keenan Robinson showed some potential last year as a rookie but then was injuried. He'll get a chance to prove his worth more this year if hes healthy.

WR - I dont expect Santana to stick around in 2014 and Josh Morgan is in the last year of his contract too. I hope to see Hankerson step up into a bigger role this year but I'm skeptical. Morgan could be someone worth extending if he stays healthy and can keep his head on straight but I think we need a better outside threat across from Garcon.

CB - DHall, Josh Wilson, and Biggers will all be free agents next year. I imagine we'll resign whoever plays best for long term but I doubt we bring back all 3 and would be surprised if we brought back 2 of the 3 after drafting Amerson this year. Will need to continue to add young depth at this position.

Babylon 05-03-2013 03:17 PM

Seattle

Olb, they can mix and match with what they have but at some point i'd like to see an outside guy that can get to the QB to be help for Bruce Irvin or just insurance.

OT, Okung has had some injury issues and after that there really isn't a lot. To me that's a problem even now.

S/CB, at some point guys are going to all want serious money back there and there's a pretty good chance the Chickens won't be able to afford them all.

Early projections:

Morgan Breslin, DE/LB USC
Mason Walters, OT/G Texas
Ha Ha Dix, DB Alabama

Naga114 05-03-2013 04:35 PM

Saints :

Our obvious need may be LB, we don't know how our transition will work and if Galette, Wilson and Butler will show up. Plus I want us to draft a star LB for once.

I think we may need CB because you can never have too many of them and I don't trust our db's.

A back-up QB, I want Sean Payton to develop a QB.

WR and maybe another TE we may be one of the best passing team but it's because of Brees and our system, we can definitely improve our players beside Colston and Graham.

I disagree on the lineman need, I trust Payton to find small school linemen and develop them, we have Charles Brown who need to step up, we just drafted Armstead and we have some projects who haven't show much but have some potential (Marcel Jones, Andrew Tiller, Eric Olsen) it's not a prime need because we are good at finding them late and developing them.

I'm not sure yet how our D-line will play so I'm not sure if it's a need yet but we may need some depht.

Bobby Layne 05-03-2013 07:05 PM

Lions

OT: Even if Reiff proves that he can play LT, RT will still be a need.

RDE: Lewis just got arrested, and Wille Young will be a FA in 2014.

TE: Brandon Pettigrew is a FA in 2014, and heís been incredibly inconsistent during his whole career.

WR: Burleson will be 33 in 2014.

C: Raiola will be 35 and a FA in 2014.

SLB: Whitehead is an unknown, and Palmer has been nothing more than a good STís guy.

K: Akerís was bad last year. If he doesnít bounce back, itís a need.

CashmoneyDrew 05-03-2013 07:35 PM

TENNESSEE TITANS:

QB
- This all just depends on Jake Locker. Good year? Not a need. Bad year? Probably top need.
HB
- I don't see this being much of a need. The Titans have a lot invested in CJ and Greene. They'll probably just draft a young guy in the mid-rounds.
WR
- The only reason why this might be a 2014 need is because of the plethora of free agents the Titans will have at the position. If I'm not mistaken, Britt, Washington, Williams, and Walter are all free agents. I don't think the Titans will go this route high in the draft.
TE
- This I could see being a big need for the Titans. Delanie Walker was a solid signing, but I'm not sure he's number one material. Craig Stevens is getting a little long in the tooth and isn't ever going to be more than a role player. If the Titans have a good season and are picking in the 20s or later of the 1st round, I think they'll eye this position early.
OT
- The Titans have options on both Stewart and Roos after this year, but I have a feeling they'll try to keep these guys around for as long as they can. Unless they fall of the face of the earth, the Titans will just be looking for depth here.
OG
- After this offseason, Tennessee is set here.
OC
- Schwenke probably makes this a non-need.
DE
- This could still be the Titans biggest need next year. Wimbley could bust, Morgan could disappoint, and there's still not much depth to speak of.
DT
- Don't see this being a need.
OLB
- Not gonna be a need.
ILB
- Only a need if Colin McCarthy fails to stay healthy again.
CB
- Don't see this being a big need.
FS
- If Griffin doesn't pick up his play this season after being paired up next to Pollard and/or Wilson, this should be a priority.
SS
- Pollard and Wilson are on short deals. Will be a need if both aren't retained.
K
- Not a need.
P
- Not a need.
LS
- Not a need.
KR
- Not a need.

armageddon 05-03-2013 07:46 PM

Rams

Nothing glaring. With 2 first rounders, they can go in any direction. Maybe more o-line and d-line depth? Maybe a FS?

wwgd 05-03-2013 11:58 PM

Panthers

WR - We have a bunch of solid 2nd or 3rd option guys, but no one to takeover as the #1 when Smitty retires in 3 years max.

OT - We need to find our future LT as Gross will also be retiring soon and we could use an upgrade at RT.

S - No depth at FS behind Godfrey and he's just an ok starter. SS is up in the air as it remains to be seen how Campbell, Lester, Mitchell will perform. All I know is under no circumstances should Nakamura be allowed to start again.

CB - Norman had an up and down rookie season, but Gettleman likes his potential (as do I) and I see him being a good starter for us. Need to find someone to play opposite of him. Thomas and Dockery were pretty good when they got playing time the second half of the season, however I'm not convinced either of them is the answer at the moment.

DE - At the moment, we're in cap hell for the next few years and Hardy's contract is just about up. We may not be able to give him an extension since we'll be giving Cam an extension around that time. Alexander has shown some promise, but you can't ever have too many pass rushers.

K - Gano was pretty good for us when we brought him in, but his track record thus far isn't great.

P - Nortman had a pretty ****** year although he was a rookie. See how he does this season.

Back-up QB - God forbid Cam gets hurt and we have to start Clausen or Anderson.

RCAChainGang 05-04-2013 01:19 AM

This is really premature. Some of these needs are very arguable because people have different views on players.

I'll give it a crack for the Colts

CB - Vontae is in a contract year and I'm still not sure Toler is the true #2 CB we need.

S - Bethea took a step back last year and this year is a contract year for him. Also, I hope Landry can stay healthy like last year, but I could see him running himself into the ground.

WR - We still need a solid #2 and an heir for Reggie Wayne. We are set in the slot with Hilton though. I am excited for DHB but I wish they would have signed him for 2 years rather than just one so he would have to prove to be consistent before he cashes in on one season. The way I see it is if he disappoints then he is out the door, but if he does well he could ask for to much and be gone anyways.

OC - This could end up not being a need if Khaled Holmes or AQ Shipley turn out to do well, but I don't like Satele.

ILB - This has been a strong point, but if Angerer leaves then it could be a need.

OLB - Jerry Hughes is gone and I'm happy, but that leaves us with one less pass rusher. Robert Mathis is getting older and we need some young blood along with Werner.

Dacitykats 05-04-2013 08:56 AM

panthers still have needs at WR, OT, and DB.1 draft pick was used on one of these positions and that was OG, not OT. this did change the OL need to OT need.
