True Detective Thread [Spoilers]

A lot of shows get their own thread, and after tonight's episode, I think True Detective is deserving.

Holy **** were those last ten minutes intense. I'm going to have to go back and watch the previous episode, as I was expecting the confrontation with Ledoux this episode. Instead it seems that scene is being saved for later on in the series.

Jvig43 02-09-2014 10:16 PM

Yeah that last scene was shot so incredibly well. I'm in love with this show. Cohle is one of my favorite characters already.

Is there a better show after just 4 episodes ever? Production values, writing, acting, cinematography.... I'm blown away.

After 4 episodes, I knew that Dads was the best comedy I'd ever witnessed.

Just watched tonight's episode and god damn was that intense. McConaughey has been nothing short of fantastic so far. His character is so damn complex and well written.

a good article on shooting that incredible final scene. I love this quote from Fukunaga:
Quote:

Off the bat, it's important to know that the oner is nothing new to Fukunaga. Having used the technique in both of his feature films, "Sin Nombre" and "Jane Eyre," Fukunaga signed onto "True Detective" knowing that he wanted to include a long take at some point, because he considers it a tenser kind of directing. "The best ones, you don't even realize that they're oners," Fukunaga said. "They're the most first-person experience you can get in a film."

Tonight's episode was great. This show is truly special. I can't remember a better action sequence then the one at the end of tonight's episode. I can't imagine how hard it must've been to have to coordinate that shot. It's amazing because we know that McConaughey is going to survive because of the future interviews, but in that moment you're not thinking about those interviews at all, you've forgotten about them. The buildup to the point where all hell breaks loose was amazing.

Glad this show got its own thread, I was going to comment that if it didn't already have one it deserved to after tonight.

No words can describe it.

nepg 02-10-2014 01:18 AM

Yeah, this show is incredible. Writing, production, casting, and acting are all God-tier.

The Alex 02-10-2014 02:15 AM

There are no words.

JRTPlaya21 02-10-2014 10:03 AM

Thank you for making this thread!!!! So glad I'm not the only one watching this show.

Jvig43 02-10-2014 10:16 AM

The fact that the majority of this country decided to tune into one of the worst shows on television over this makes me quite sad. This show is special, and I'm going to really miss these two in their roles after this season. Idk who the hell else is going to step into next season but good luck to them.

Grizzlegom 02-10-2014 10:29 AM

This is the first week I waited to watch the preview for next week and I wish I hadn't. This show is so intense, having even the slightest potential spoiler is something I don't want.

vidae 02-10-2014 10:48 AM

Yeah this show is okay, I guess.

The majority probably don't have HBO that's something to remember.

Seemed like a mission out of GTA.

Except less shooting.

My exact quote is this is basically GTA.

Holy **** I'm not sure I've ever gone 6 to midnight faster than that last scene. I mean, I already loved McConaughey's performance thus far but that episode was fantastic.

So obviously they are trying to paint Cohle as involved somehow. I don't think it will be anything major, but there's gonna be some huge secret.

Dr. Gonzo 02-11-2014 01:28 AM

******* amazing.

SunTzu_22 02-11-2014 02:21 AM

Finally found time to watch this episode. Damn... McConaughey went at least 7 kinds of HAM in this one. God, this show is amazing.

Cigaro 02-11-2014 10:38 AM

As good as McConaughey has been, Harrelson is doing a damn good job as well. He may have a "simpler" character, but he nails it. Brad Carter (Charlie Lange) has also nailed his few scenes. Overall, I think this may be the best acting I've ever seen in a TV show (by the end of this season, it may be the best show I've ever seen).

Jvig43 02-11-2014 10:39 AM

I seriously have no idea how they expect anyone else to replicate the greatness of the two leads next season.

They'll almost surely be able to get more big name actors given both the increasing prestige of TV in general, and the prestige True Detective is going to have by the end of the season. That being said, topping McConaughey/Harrelson is going to be almost impossible no matter who they bring in.

nepg 02-11-2014 10:53 AM

Ugh...PSH would have been so perfect for this...

vidae 02-11-2014 11:13 AM

I'm really into this show, but I'm not ready to put it in the same sentence as Breaking Bad or The Wire. Maybe by the end of the season I will be, but I can't do it yet.
