Mock Draft 1.0 (Feedback Wanted)

My first mock of the year. There were several, several picks that I went back and forth on so the more feedback I can get, the better. Tell me where I went right, where I went wrong...

1. Houston - QB Blake Bortles (UCF)
2. St. Louis - OT Jake Matthews (Texas A&M)
3. Jacksonville - DE Jadeveon Clowney (South Carolina)
4. Cleveland - WR Sammy Watkins (Clemson)
5. Oakland - QB Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M)
6. Atlanta - OT Greg Robinson (Auburn)
7. Tampa Bay - OLB Khalil Mack (Buffalo)
8. Minnesota - QB Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville)
9. Buffalo - OT Taylor Lewan (Michigan)
10. Detroit - OLB Anthony Barr (UCLA)
11. Tennessee - CB Darqueze Dennard (Michigan State)
12. NY Giants - WR Mike Evans (Texas A&M)
13. St. Louis - S Ha-Ha Clinton Dix (Alabama)
14. Chicago - CB Justin Gilbert (Oklahoma State)
15. Pittsburgh - DT Louis Nix III (Notre Dame)
16. Dallas - DT Aaron Donald (Pittsburgh)
17. Baltimore - ILB CJ Mosely (Alabama)
18. NY Jets - TE Eric Ebron (North Carolina)
19. Miami - OT Cyrus Kouandijo (Alabama)
20. Arizona - OG/OT Zack Martin (Notre Dame)
21. Green Bay - S Calvin Pryor (Louisville)
22. Philadelphia - OLB Dee Ford (Auburn)
23. Kansas City - WR Marquise Lee (USC)
24. Cincinnati - CB Kyle Fuller (Virginia Tech)
25. San Diego - DE Kony Ealy (Missouri)
26. Cleveland - QB Derek Carr (Fresno State)
27. New Orleans - OT Antonio Richardson (Tennessee)
28. Carolina - OT Morgan Moses (Virginia)
29. New England - DT Timmy Jernigan (Florida State)
30. San Francisco - CB Jason Verrett (TCU)
31. Denver - DE Scott Crichton (Oregon State)
32. Seattle - WR Kelvin Benjamin (Florida State)

Pat Sims 90 02-26-2014 10:14 PM

Rather see Jernigan over Fuller but I will take either of them.

Jas 02-26-2014 10:16 PM

Feedback for the cowboys..

The_Dude 02-26-2014 10:17 PM

Bridgewater at 8 would be fairly exciting

the_legend_killer 02-26-2014 10:18 PM

Bridgewater falls to the Vikings.

zachsaints52 02-26-2014 10:37 PM

Saints need DB's more then anything.

Hurricanes25 02-27-2014 12:40 AM

I'm praying Ebron is there for the Jets.

Shupp 02-27-2014 12:44 AM

Not bad for SF but I would prefer one of the WR's there, either Benjamin or Beckham.

Phins827 02-27-2014 05:53 AM

Poor pick for Miami. Actually terrible pick. He failed his physical due to his knee problems, and many teams have taken him completely off the board. So Miami takes him in the first? Martin please

AntoinCD 02-27-2014 07:02 AM

I'm ok with the Jernigan pick and think that is a good range for him. One of the Tes could be in play too, or a trade down

Byrd430 02-27-2014 09:10 PM

@PatSims -- That was one of the most troubling picks I had to do, but IMO, Kyle Fuller is the second best corner in this draft, and I could see him pulling a Logan Ryan and getting picked in the top 10, or top 15.

It's just with Leon Hall injured and Adam Jones and Terrence Newman on the decline, I see CB as the MAJOR need for Cincy. I still almost went with Jernigan there because I think Cincy could pick up a CB in the second (someone like Marcus Roberson maybe?), but... I didn't.

@ZachSaints -- This was another pick I had a lot of trouble projecting because I think NO needs safety help more than corner. I'm not sure another safety outside of Pryor and Clinton Dix would go in the first, although I must admit I was tempted to plug in Ward... Would you rather have Ward? Or Verrett? Or who?

@Phins827 -- I will take that under advisement. I gotta tell you that I was VERY close to taking Martin because of his versatility to play either guard or tackle. The reason I didn't, though, is because OT is more important than OG, and Miami will need an OT more. I project Martin as a OG while Kuoandijo will play OT.

I'll research more on Kuoandijo as the player rankings I used still had him in the first round. (I haven't done my own player rankings yet, which will come next week probably.)

To Jas -- As a fellow Cowboy fan, Donald is one of the best picks we could make atm. I'm happy I had him falling to us because unlike the other highly touted DTs (Nix, Hageman, Jernigan, etc.), he actually fits that 3-technique we're looking for. Plus he had a nice combine.

To everyone else -- Glad you liked your picks!

LOVE Lee to KC

SilentJaguar 02-27-2014 11:52 PM

Would rather have Teddy than Clowney for the Jags.

I agree with Shupp here. With Benajmin on the or even Pryor at 21 to trade with green bay . I'd make that trade or before 20 even to get Pryor.

SickwithIt1010 02-28-2014 01:19 PM

I can dig it.

scottyboy 02-28-2014 03:37 PM

giants pick is bonerific and don't let anyone ever tell you differently

Miaoww 02-28-2014 04:24 PM

Give me Verrett over Moses - much, much better player.

Niners Fans:

Help me understand why you would rather have a WR there?

I understand needing an upgrade over the Manningham/Jenkins/Wilson/etc. revolving door, but you have 2 awesome receivers in Boldin and Crabtree there already.

Wouldn't you rather upgrade a suspect secondary in the first and nab any one of the deep class of WRs (to be your THIRD receiver) in the second?

WR is a huge need, Boldin is FA right now and still not a sure thing to re-sign, even if he comes back he will be 34 years old next year. Crabtree is entering his last year under contract and I personally think there's only a 50/50 chance he resigns. The only other receiver even under contract is Quinton Patton.

As far as the secondary, CB and Safety are big needs but not as big as some may think. At CB, Tremaine Brock was extended and is set to start, Chris Culliver will also be back and he was our #3 CB in 2012 before missing last year. Also, Tarell Brown has a chance to be resigned, if that is the case that is respectful 1,2,3. Same story with Safety, if Whitner leaves it definitely needs to be addressed but he could be re-signed as well.

WR, CB, and Safety all need to be addressed but it is more likely to get a premium WR picking at #30 this year than that of a CB or Safety.

I concur wholeheartedly.

Seasonticketholder 03-02-2014 01:18 PM

Saints top two needs are CB and WR. the former is likely to be addressed in free agency. I think the Saints take Beckham or Cooks here.

wicket 03-03-2014 12:45 PM

saints pick verrett there

superfly69 03-03-2014 05:51 PM

I love Donald to Dallas but I don't think he will be there.

RaiderNation 03-03-2014 05:58 PM

As long as we get 1 of the top 3 QB's I will be very happy. I have them ranked:

Bortles
Bridgewater
Manziel

Brown Leader 03-03-2014 07:20 PM

Damn you Daniel Jeremiah!
