2012 Raiders Draft Discussion
It's never to early to talk about the draft! We will likely get a few comp. picks, hopefully 1 3rd for Nnamdi and 2 4ths for Miller and Gallery. What positions should we address on our football team?
I'm think DE, DT, OL, RB and SS could all be options. We are in need of a pass rushing specialist at DE, and also could use a DT to develop behind Seymour and Kelly. Depending on how we feel about Bruce Campbell, OL could be a possibility too. Michael Bush will likely leave in F/A, and even though I like Taiwan Jones, we need to add some beef behind DMC since he is injury prone. Also Tyvon Branch is a F/A after the season, and this could be time for either Mike Mitchell to step up or we draft a SS.

I don't view RB as an area of need at all. Maybe a power back in the later rounds, but that's really it for me.
I haven't followed the draft this year nearly as much as I have in years past so, I don't really know a lot of the prospects the Raiders should be targeting.

Oakland Raiders Mock Draft
Round 5 - Jack Crawford, DE, Penn State.
Al Davis may be gone but I believe Raiders will continue to draft physical freaks and Crawford fits that mold. For his size 6'6 260, he can move. He's raw but has a ton of upside, could be available in round 5.
Round 6 - Terrance Ganaway, RB, Baylor
Ganaway goes 6'0 240lbs and he can run. He's having a monster season and could be a huge steal in the late rounds.

Still feel this way?
Bush may be gone.
McFoot is unreliable.
Cambodia Jones is an unknown, save for his tendency to get hurt more than McFoot.
Cartwright is pretty much just a STer.
If Bush leaves, we need two new tailbacks.

Seymour will be a Raider next season, his contract is fully guaranteed as of Friday last week. Wimbley, Huff and others futures are still unknown.

I has the feeling another cut will happen this week. If I had to bet Wimbley or Henderson could be next out the door, maybe Huff as well.

Idk when the compensary picks some out, but I can't wait to see what we get. In the 3rd we have to be looking at DE, and right now I like Jonathan Massaquoi, Cam Johnson, and Jake Bequette as possible picks. After DE I can see us going FS, OL or TE. Some 4-5 round prospects I like in those positions are: FS Phillip Thomas, FS Brandon Taylor, OT/OG Andrew Datko, OT/OG Mitchell Schwartz, TE Ladarius Green, TE Michael Egnew.

They are generally awarded at or immediately after the owner's meetings at the end of March. This year, the meetings are the 26-28.

I feel pretty good about it in the near future. I want at least 1 offensive lineman, maybe 2. A SLB, a dependable CB (Porter please). I also want a speed rusher On the D line. I'm also not too happy with Ausberry, Gordon and Myers as our TEs.
I'd like our CB and TE help to be veteran and maybe one veteran olineman.
I think the Raiders can be okay moving forward with their few picks if they can get a couple more key contributors in FA.

Signed Bartell/Shawntae Spencer at CB and Briseil at OG, brought back Cooper Carlisle, which is alright I guess for some depth at RT.
Still need to grab a big DT, maybe we will make a run at one in the draft.

Carlisle will likely start at LG/RG in our new ZBS, we will see what happens at RT(Barksdale or Campbell need to step up).
I think a DE is more a pressing need than DT, Houston should see more time at DT in the new scheme but I agree a big DT to clog the middle like Henderson did is a need. DE, DT, OL, TE, CB, FS should all be addressed in the coming weeks.

We have been in the bottom five in regards to run defense for years. It blows my mind why we haven't made it a priority.....

Idk how Carlisle hangs around...I don't like him one bit.
I do think we need to go defense first. A solid TE would be nice though.

I think we will stay put at TE with Ausberry. Palmer rarely used Boss, I think he doesn't really throw it to them.

I want Pat Sims in FA. Then a speed rusher with our first compensatory pick.

Yea that would be nice.
I think realistically this year is going to be a wash.

Looks like Josh Chapman is visiting the Raiders, and could be an option for us in the 3rd. He is exactly the type of big body needed to improve the run defense, and is also a very tough kid playing through a tore ACL the entire 2011 season.

I kinda like the idea of a guy like Chapman. He would be interesting on the interior when you consider he's 6'1 and Seymour and Kelly are both 6'6

3rd- Josh Chapman DT Alabama- Big run stuffer to play in our DT rotation with Seymour, Kelly, Houston and Bryant.
4th- Bruce Irvin OLB West Virginia
Exactly the type of athlete to play in the Von Miller role in our defense, and it's the type of pick we need to make to fill our SLB need.
5th- Tom Compton OT South Dakoda
ZBS OT that can compete with Barksdale and others for the RT job.
5th- Aaron Henry FS Wisconsin
A back up/deveopmental FS is needed behind Huff, and Henry could see extended time as a rookie.
6th- Terrence Ganaway RB Baylor- A RB will be added either through the draft or a UDFA will be picked up, and Ganaway is the type of work horse needed to go with DMC and Taiwan.
Overall: 5 prospects brought in and I can honestly see all them seeing playing time if it ended up like this.
