It's impossible that anyone brought as much passion and knowledge to the linebacker position. There are other greats but Ray was one of a kind in a modern era of copycats.
Im glad. One of the greatest ever but he was a shadow of his former self on the field for the last year or two. People should remember him on the field from the early 2000s, not the last couple of years

Well this just isn't true.

He still brought leadership and intensity but he wasn't close to what he used to be. Became easier to block in the run game and became a holding machine in coverage

Damn. I've been in denial that this day would ever come. I still don't know if this man can live without this game so like MetSox said, I'll believe it when next season. Makes this playoff run potentially that much more meaningful. Greatest MLB to ever play the game and one of the greatest leaders in sports history.
Everyone needs to watch this. Promise you won't regret it.
Definitely the best player I have ever personally seen. Not only that, but he defined defense and football in general for me. Not going to say its a sad day to see him go simply because he's had a great and long career and this will be a good way to go, but I'll definitely miss him.
Dude made me a Ravens fan, always loved watching that D play as a kid. Wish him nothing but the best. Hopefully they can make a SB run now. Would love to see Ravens vs Seahawks, 2 great defenses, power running, what a game that would be.
Some people inspire you to greatness with their words. Some people lead the charge, and inspire you with their actions. Then their is Ray Lewis. Ray Lewis grabbed greatness by the throat, put it in a headlock, and told you to come over and get your lick back.
As a fan of a division rival, I’m not sad to see him hang up the pads. Lining across from No. 52 has been a chronic nightmare for over a decade.
That aside, he’s a legitimate conversation starter in the discussion of the greatest middle linebackers of all-time. He was a dominant three-down linebacker and fearsome in all facets. His on-field impact is undeniable. But I’ll remember him even more for being the greatest leader I’ve ever seen from the sidelines. Forget quarterbacks. Lewis was the true embodiment of a field general. I’ve never seen someone elevate the level of their teammates on both sides of the ball on such a consistent basis. He was a constant source of inspiration to that franchise. His “Pissed Off For Greatness” speech gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it.
As frustrating as he’s been, I’m still glad to have witnessed the career of a legend.
Im probably one of the few here old enough to remember watching Lawrence Taylor play. So Im fortunate to see probably to 2 best LBs to play the game in there prime.
