Well, at least he won't be hurting us anywhere else.. He will likely retire after sustaining a serious neck injury last year against Seattle. He visited a specialist in LA, who confirmed the failed physical in New York. Sucks to see him go, I never thought it would happen like this.
EDIT: well, according to his press conference, he is excited about going out and helping another team when he gets healthy. but, he doesn't sound too optimistic about passing any physicals or being cleared by doctors. he says he's just enjoying life right now, not worrying about his future playing career. sounds like he may come back strong next year, or maybe he can get healthy enough this year. i'm just glad he didn't go out saying "I'm done. I'm not healthy enough to play football".
The problems this presents is more of a loss of leadership than talent. We will now need someone else to lead our front-seven. As far as a replacement, I think DJ Williams should be moved to the middle, where he can get more snaps (which is what Jim Bates wants). Gold will stay at WLB and we will likely look for a good SAM prospect in the draft.

Most likely cap related move as stated in the article but its really not a surprise since they have been shopping him recently. Although the neck injury may have been a factor as well, any teams will definitely scrutinize him immensely especially since he failed the physical with the Giants not too long ago. Maybe the Broncos like a linebacker in the draft, a Patrick Willis or H.B Blades could be possible.

OSU giants- he may not even play this year. Shanahan is a slimeball for trying to trade damaged goods. He relized he couldnt after Wilson failed the Giants physical, and they cut him

How is that being a slimeball? Every team has different physicals. Some players will fail a physical with one team and pass with another.

Trying to trade a player whose career might be over without disclosing all the information to the other team definitely qualifies as slimeball.
Just like cheating the salary cap to get John a couple rings. And their blocking scheme. Shanahan=slimeball. This isn't that surprising.

How does using the ZBS make him a slimeball?

Are you joking? I'm not going to get into the whole debate, but the entire system is predicated on cutting out the knees of guys who are busy with somebody else. It's basically the football equivalent of the sucker punch.
Sure it's effective, and sure it's legal, but that doesn't make it clean. I've watched too many donkos put dirty hits on other teams for too many years to blindly think Shanahan isn't encouraging that ****.

He has a high cap hit, and is coming back from serious neck/back injurie(s). Its not really a suprise.
He's only 29, so I don't see him retiring. He just needs the chance to get healthy, especially since he plays in the middle.
He won't be the Al Wilson of old, but he's a veteran defensive leader that will improve any team that can sign him.

Who's Shanny thinking to start at MLB now? Nate Webster?
I hope we draft Patrick Willis.

He was such a great player for them I hope he can get a back to 100% and play for someone even as a Div player I loved watching him play the game.
