more like tearing down a building that has a tiny little shed under construction inside of it and then sueing the guy who destroys the big building for also knocking out the shed.

Well I hope for the Saint's sake he didn't have as much a part in it as they are saying. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt but in this day who knows.

Charles Grant has been in the NFL since 2002, is a high character guy, heavily involved in helping the community and charities. Also, he has never been in trouble before. I think he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time and I doubt he killed anyone.

I know you are a Saints fan and obviously feel the need to defend your player, but just because somebody had a perfect record, doesn't mean it won't get tarnished in the future. For example, New England Patriots 18-0 > 18-1.

Grant will likely be exonerated and the charges could be dropped before a trial date can even be scheduled. At the time of the incident, the authorities stated that Grant was a victim, not a perpetrator, and actually tried to diffuse the situation. His cousin pulled out a gun, shot it in the air and the falling bullet killed the young lady and her unborn fetus.

Because Grant was stabbed, it's easy for the grand jury to name him as a party to the indictment as a way of seeing if he played in role in the fight. Once it is established that he did not, then it is very likely he will be utilized as a witness to identify the actual culprits. Keep in mind that the actual indictment suggests that a fight (misdemeanor affray) led to the shooting and, thus, the killing of the young lady and her unborn fetus. So the goal of the prosecution is to figure out all the parties involved in the insitigation and escalation of the fight as each individual would be complicit in the shooting even if he or she did not pull the trigger. The punishment, obviously, would be far less for those involved in the fight than what they will be for the person who pulled the trigger.

According to the story, Grant tried to diffuse the situation and he and his entourage attempted to leave. After being followed to their vehicles, the cousin pulled out a gun and shot it in the air. Following that sequence, this Woodward fellow named in the indictment stabbed Grant in the shoulder. It does not appear that Grant had any unlawful involvement in the fight and, as I stated earlier, will likely be exonerated if not have the charges against dropped altogether.

It's unfortunate that he has to deal with this matter, especially since it is his cousin that was the shooter. Grant's lawyer has already stated this, which means he is likey to cooperate fully with authorities in identifying the shooter rather than capitulating to the "stop snitching" boondoggle that has been put forth by certain elements of society. That is good for him and will likely help him put this matter to bed quickly. On the other hand, it's even more unfortunate for the victim and her family. Someone lost her life and the life of her unborn fetus simply because a few people could not let cooler heads prevail. It's sad, truly sad.

That's perfectly true. Heck, OJ was loved before the allegations about him killing his wife and Ron Goldman emerged. Look at Marvin Harrison. Still, I think in more cases than not, an individual's natural tendencies says a lot about what they would and would not do. A lot of the earlier reports suggested that Grant tried to diffuse the situation and end the fight. I tend to believe that version of the story given that Grant has been a high-character guy who has worked tirelessly in the community. He's also been a guy who has been seen as mild-mannered and not one willing to engage in BS.

I think he just wanted to point out that his reputation doesn't mean he's innocent. He COULD have done what he's accused of, even though I'll agree with you that it would be very out of character

That's true and if he did do it, Grant should be punished. It just doesn't seem like a thing he would do. It would be the same way if this happened to a player like Drew Brees or Deuce McAllister. But these things do happen all the time and I don't know all the facts.
