I feel as though the NFL world has sort of gotten used to Gonzo. While obviously I don't rank him higher than Gates, I do think he is still a very close second. The guy is a great blocker, and a reliable producer. Even Gates isn't the absolute picture of consistency, although I attribute it to the double and triple coverages, spies, and jams that get aimed at him on every play.
This stuff about Witten being indubitably the best at the top of the page is pretty whack though. Witten's great, dominant even, and obviously a big part of the Cowboy attack, but he really just isn't a gamebreaking threat on par with Solja, Gates and Gonzo. Maybe it's a speed issue, or a downfield threat issue, or maybe he's just plain outshined by TO, but I've seen plenty of Cowboy games and that's my opinion. YMMV.
PS anyone else remember when Vernon Davis said before his rookie season that he was the best TE in the league already? Where you at 85?
