That is a very good question... both the players and fans loved Tice. He was just a funny, goofy guy. However, the Love Boat Scandal might have showed the lack of control he had over the team. With the him the focus was definitely on offense, and the defense took the hit. We always had these scrubs no one's ever heard of. The offense put up points with Culpepper and Moss, but Culpepper had his own issues. Even under Tice, I came into each game thinking "okay, how are we going to **** this up?" After all, the Arizona nooooo game happened under him. The of the Tice era basically came when Culpepper was injured against Carolina. I felt bad for Tice when he was fired after the Bears season finale.
The hiring of Childress definitely brought a culture shock. We were used to this big lug who dressed for practice with his players, and now we have this short, mustached guy no one has heard of. He just has a completely different personality, and I think his personality brings a lot of criticism from the casual fan. He just isn't a guy you can sit and have a beer with. He, like several other coaches, tried to draft his own quarterback and mold him into his own "McNabb" or whatever. How well that has worked remains to be seen; he is still very raw, which is what everyone expected. The team itself has gotten arguably better every year, even with the quarterback seemingly being neglected. The defense took a big step this year, and there is actually evidence of a passing game here in Minnesota. He has improved the record every year, although much of that has to go to Adrian Peterson (how much did he have to do with that decision?). The offseason moves he has made have put a bigger focus on defense, something that Tice neglected to do. Overall, I think the Childress Vikings a BIT better than the Tice Vikings. People are just quick to jump on these Vikings because they don't have Tice, Moss, or Culpepper to idolize anymore.
