Chargers Hire New Coach
This was reported on Cold Pizza about 45 seconds ago and supposedly Len Pasquarelli is reporting that the Chargers have indeed hired 49ers OC Norv Turner as the coach that will replace Marty Schottenheimer.
Here's one from FOX Sports:

if that's true (don't know if you can trust cold pizza ), then that sucks for 49er fans.

Well it's on ESPN2 right now if you anyone is curious. I was certain Samurai Mike would've received it and Norv would've stayed in SF but oh well.

I wonder what Skip Bayless is gonna say:
"I hate all the Cowboys. Norv used to work for the Cowboys, so I hate him."

Got love the Chargers commitment to recycling.
Some guys are just made to be coordinators and assistant coaches. They just can't make it at the top level. Nothing wrong with that.

Well, another aspect of this is that Norv wanted a lot of organization and coordinator control when he interviewed for the Cowboys. I wonder if he changed his approach in this case or AJ Smith and Norv really get along. Either way, it still doesn't make a lot of sense, especially with how the Raider players didn't have any respect for what Norv was doing in Oakland.

While I agree that Norv just seems like one of those guys who should stay a coordinator, you've gotta admit that with his knowledge on offense and with the weapons he has available (on both sides of the ball) it's gonna be nearly impossible for him to not succeed in SD.

ESPN is reporting that Ted Cotrell will likely be hired as the DC. This is who A.J Smith wanted Shot to hire as his DC in the first place.
I hope that this once again sheds some light on how Singletary is viewed as a head coaching candidate. As a Bears fan even I can objectively say that there is little to his resume to deserve a head coaching position. He gets interviews based out of respect and name recognition (and being black probably doesn't hurt either).

The fact that he previously worked as an offensive coordinator in San Diego doesn't hurt either. People that are expecting the Norv Turner as head coach in Oakland will be sorely dissapointed. The differences between San Diego and Oakland couldn't be more stark.

I don't think Smith "blamed" Marty. He just didn't want to work with him any further. I can understand Smith's position. If you're the GM you want a coach that shares the same organizational philosophy with you and somebody that you feel like you can work with. It's a move that eventually would have to be made.
That being said you are correct. Smith now has his guy, and if the Chargers don't make serious inroads in the playoffs in the next few years (one year is unrealistic to have his head on pike) then he will face some serious heat and rightfully so.

Sucks to be a 49ers and Chargers fan. Although he does run a similar offense to what SD had before.
